Derek Taylor Joins G&W as Chief Operating Officer

DARIEN, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) today announced that Derek Taylor has joined the company as chief operating officer.

Derek brings more than 25 years of railroad leadership experience with a proven track record of delivering operational excellence, strengthening safety performance and driving customer-focused results. He most recently served as executive vice president and chief field operating officer at Canadian National Railway, where he led thousands of employees each day across a 20,000-mile network of safe and efficient transportation and intermodal operations.

“Derek is a seasoned railroad operator and leader who understands what it takes to run safe, reliable and customer-focused operations,” says G&W CEO Michael Miller, whom Derek will report to from Jacksonville. “Throughout his career, Derek has been deeply involved in network operations, service design and large-scale capital planning to expand capacity, improve service reliability and support new business growth. His leadership style, business acumen and deep operating experience are a great fit for G&W and will allow me more time to focus on enhancing our customer experience, accelerating commercial growth and strengthening our partnerships across the industry.”

In his new role, Derek will be responsible for G&W operations spanning 40 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces.
