Humata Health Joins CMS Electronic Prior Authorization Acceleration Initiative to Speed Care for Patients and Providers

As a Friend of the Ecosystem, the AI-powered prior authorization leader will help modernize clinical workflows and close technical gaps ahead of 2027 federal mandates

WINTER PARK, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Humata Health, the leader in AI-powered medical review technology, today announced it has joined the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Electronic Prior Authorization Acceleration initiative as a Friend of the Ecosystem. Launched through the CMS Health Tech Ecosystem, it brings together health systems, payers, electronic health record developers, and technology partners to address the workflow, technical, and operational challenges slowing adoption of electronic prior authorization across the healthcare system.

The initiative builds on regulatory requirements established in the CMS Interoperability and Prior Authorization final rule, which mandates API-enabled data exchange, defined decision timeframes, and public reporting of prior authorization metrics by January 1, 2027.

Humata's solution automates the entire prior authorization continuum, from checking authorization requirements and retrieving payer-specific policies to clinical bundling, submission, statusing, and post-authorization monitoring. The company's AI-powered PolicyMatch technology uses natural language processing to match clinical documentation against payer criteria, aligning submissions with medical necessity, step therapy, and diagnosis requirements before they ever reach a payer. Across deployments at major health systems, the platform has delivered a 96% first-pass approval rate, an 83% reduction in reschedules, and 35% fewer staff touches per authorization.

"The shift toward electronic prior authorization requires the full ecosystem moving in the same direction at the same time," said Jeremy Friese, MD, Founder and CEO of Humata Health. "Our technology has already proven what is possible when AI is applied thoughtfully to clinical review, and we want to help ensure that the infrastructure being built today delivers on its promise for patients and providers."

Humata Health brings direct federal implementation experience to this initiative, having been selected by CMS as a technology partner for the WISeR (Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction) Model, which went live in January 2026 and represents one of the most advanced real-world deployments of AI-driven clinical review in Medicare.
