Mediacom Communications Honors John Pascarelli Upon His Retirement After 28 Years of Service

Longtime operations leader helped shape Mediacom's growth from a young cable company into a national broadband provider.

MEDIACOM PARK, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mediacom Communications today announced the retirement of John G. Pascarelli, Executive Vice President of Operations, following more than 28 years of service to Mediacom and a 46-year career in the cable and broadband industry.

Pascarelli joined Mediacom in March 1998 as Vice President of Marketing, shortly after the company completed its first sizeable acquisition. He quickly became a key member of the senior management team and one of founder Rocco B. Commisso's most trusted advisors. In 2000, Pascarelli was promoted to Senior Vice President of Marketing and Consumer Services, and in November 2003, he was named Executive Vice President of Operations.

"John's career at Mediacom is woven into the history of this company," said Giuseppe B. Commisso, Chairman and CEO of Mediacom Communications. "My father built Mediacom by surrounding himself with people of ability, judgment, loyalty and courage. John was one of those people. For more than 28 years, he helped us grow, modernize, and strengthen this company. He led with discipline in good times and with calm resolve in difficult times, and his contributions will remain part of Mediacom's story for generations."

As Mediacom's senior operations executive, Pascarelli helped oversee the company's field operations, customer service, marketing, advertising sales, engineering, technology, business services, financial operations, and product development. During his tenure, Mediacom expanded to pass more than 3 million homes and businesses across 22 states and became the nation's fifth-largest cable operator. The company also invested billions of dollars to build a national broadband network serving smaller cities, towns, and rural communities across the Midwest and Southeast.

Pascarelli played a central role in Mediacom's transition from a cable-television-centric business with more than 700 geographically isolated headends into an interconnected broadband provider capable of delivering high-speed internet, video, phone and mobile services. That network transformation helped position Mediacom as a leading gigabit broadband provider to smaller markets and helped advance the company's long-standing commitment to closing the digital divide in the communities it serves.

During his leadership, Mediacom launched and expanded many of its most important customer-focused initiatives, including advanced video and broadband services, service-level guarantees, tighter appointment windows, expanded customer care programs, and new growth platforms such as Mediacom Business and Mediacom Mobile. Pascarelli also helped guide the company through major industry transitions, retransmission consent disputes, the Great Recession, the COVID-19 pandemic, and numerous natural disasters affecting Mediacom's service areas.

"Whatever challenge Mediacom faced, John was there," Giuseppe B. Commisso added. "He was steady, practical and committed. He cared deeply about the people of this company and the customers we serve. On behalf of the Commisso family and the entire Mediacom organization, we thank John for his extraordinary service and wish him and his family a long, healthy and happy retirement."

Before joining Mediacom, Pascarelli held senior marketing and management roles at Helicon Communications, Cablevision Industries, Storer Communications, Cablevision Systems and Continental Cablevision. He began his career selling cable television door to door while attending college in Massachusetts.

Pascarelli is also a respected industry leader. He has served on the boards of directors of NCTA - The Internet & Television Association, CableLabs and C-SPAN. He was inducted into the Cable TV Pioneers in 2008 and received the Vanguard Award for Cable Operations Management in 2014.

"It has been the privilege of my career to work alongside so many talented people at Mediacom," Pascarelli said. "I am grateful to Rocco, Giuseppe and the entire Commisso family for the trust they placed in me, and I am proud of what we built together. Mediacom's people have always been its greatest strength, and I will carry those relationships and memories with me into retirement."

Pascarelli will continue to serve on Mediacom's Board of Directors.

To ensure continuity, a successor has been selected for the Executive Vice President of Operations role, and the Company will share additional details in the coming weeks.
