Wilson Sonsini Adds Project Finance Leader Ken Sanocki to Expand Energy and Climate Solutions Practice

Former Sunrun Executive Led More Than $10 Billion in Tax Equity Financings Across Distributed Energy Platforms

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, the premier provider of legal services to technology, life sciences, and growth enterprises worldwide, today announced that Ken Sanocki has joined the firm as a partner in its Energy and Climate Solutions (ECS) practice in San Francisco. His addition enhances the firm’s ability to advise clients across the full lifecycle of energy infrastructure financing—from early-stage development through complex capital markets transactions.

Sanocki joins from Sunrun, the nation’s leading residential solar and storage provider, where he served as vice president of legal. In that role, he oversaw all legal aspects of project finance, including tax equity financings, tax credit sale agreements, securitizations, warehouse facilities, and other complex debt facilities supporting large-scale distributed energy deployment.

During his tenure, Sanocki held roles of increasing seniority while leading more than 50 tax equity financings totaling over $10 billion across distributed energy portfolios, with responsibilities spanning the drafting and negotiation of key transaction documents, preparation of critical deliverables, and overall legal oversight of each financing.

“Ken has operated at the center of the energy transition, helping shape the financing structures that enabled distributed energy to scale into mainstream infrastructure,” said Doug Clark, managing partner of Wilson Sonsini. “He brings deep technical experience in tax equity and structured financings, along with the judgment and commercial instincts clients need in a rapidly evolving market. We are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”

At Wilson Sonsini, Sanocki will advise companies, sponsors, and investors on structured and project finance across renewable energy, storage, and climate infrastructure. He will also support clients in capital formation and strategic transactions, including the development of portfolios of revenue-generating assets, as well as companies preparing for IPOs or pursuing M&A activity.

“I’m excited to join Wilson Sonsini’s ECS practice, which has built a market-leading platform at the convergence of energy innovation, market-opening regulatory advocacy, and capital formation,” said Sanocki. “The team has created something truly distinctive, and I look forward to working alongside them to help clients navigate complex financings and scale the next generation of energy infrastructure.”

Prior to Sunrun, Sanocki served as senior counsel for global structured and project finance at SunEdison and began his career as a project finance associate at Milbank.

He earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his B.A. from Boston College.

Sanocki joins following last year’s additions of partners Stanford (Stan) Renas, who focuses on structured finance and securitization transactions, and Matt Christiansen, the most recent former general counsel of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Together, these hires strengthen Wilson Sonsini’s ECS platform and expand its capabilities in sophisticated, asset-based energy transition finance, reinforcing the firm’s position as a market leader in clean energy and infrastructure advisory.
