Blue Buffalo™ Celebrates National Pet Month with Donations to Best Friends Animal Society

Pet owners can help turn their food purchases into up to $250,000 in donations and earn cash back for their own furry family members

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In celebration of National Pet Month, Blue Buffalo™ is donating up to $250,000 for shelter pets in partnership with leading national nonprofit Best Friends Animal Society. National Pet Month is a time to support pets in need through adoption and giving back, and as the official pet food and treats partner of Best Friends since August 2024, Blue Buffalo is helping pet parents give back this month.

Through May 29, shoppers can earn up to $13 cash back by purchasing eligible Blue Buffalo dog and cat products and redeeming their receipt through the Ibotta app. For every redemption, Blue Buffalo will donate $.30 to Best Friends, up to $250,000. This marks the second year that Blue Buffalo and Best Friends have partnered for National Pet Month.

“We are excited to partner with Best Friends Animal Society again to make it easy for pet parents to give back while performing everyday tasks, like buying dog food and treats, for their own furry friends,” said Gabriel Viñas, Vice President and Business Unit Director for Blue Buffalo Dog at General Mills. “Every purchase can help provide food, care and a second chance for pets in shelters, while ensuring their own pets get the high-quality nutrition they deserve.”

Blue Buffalo offers a wide range of recipes made with high-quality, wholesome ingredients to support cats and dogs at every life stage. Because each pet is unique, Blue Buffalo offers formulas to meet pets where they are, no matter their age, breed or specific nutritional needs. In fact, Blue Buffalo partners with Best Friends year-round to give adopted pets a healthy start by providing free food to take to their new homes.

“We’re grateful for partners like Blue Buffalo who support our goal to save every healthy and treatable dog and cat in shelters,” said Julie Castle, CEO, Best Friends Animal Society. “National Pet Month is an ideal time to not only celebrate and treat our own pets, but also to give pet lovers around the country opportunities to help those who are still waiting in shelters. Through collaborations like this one, we can bring about a day when every dog and cat has a safe place to call home.”

To get started, shoppers can download the Ibotta app via the Apple App Store, Google Play Store or ibotta.com, add the offer to their list, then upload the receipt from eligible products — including Love Made Fresh and Tastefuls Purées — to redeem the offer. Every redemption brings Blue Buffalo one step closer to its $250,000 goal, helping more shelter pets find the care and support they need.

About Blue Buffalo

Blue Buffalo started with a promise made to a lovable Airedale named Blue who struggled with cancer, the #1 disease-related killer of dogs and cats. His family, the Bishops, wanted to feed him the best food possible, so they searched for food with high-quality ingredients, but decided to create something even better – natural pet food for dogs and cats with nutritious ingredients, real meat first, and some of the highest standards in the industry. Since Day 1, BLUE’s team of veterinarians and animal nutritionists have carefully selected high-quality, natural ingredients and upheld its True BLUE Promise to dog and cat pet parents – real meat as the first ingredient with NO chicken (or poultry) by-product meals, NO corn, wheat or soy, and NO artificial flavors or preservatives. The result is a portfolio of high-quality, natural food and treats that both dogs and cats love. This simple idea: “Love them like family. Feed them like family.” lives on today in every Blue Buffalo recipe. Visit BlueBuffalo.com to learn more.
