Dickey’s first landed onto Edmonton’s dining scene in 2022, and since then has been introducing its neighbors to the deliciousness of authentic, slow-smoked style barbecue. It didn’t take long for fans across the prairies to follow the smoke signals through the doors of the barbecue joint and discover the delicious difference in Dickey’s craveable ‘cue.

The Dickey’s difference starts with its approach to smoking premium cuts of brisket, chicken and sausage low and slow for hours over a proprietary hickory wood pellet blend. The barbecue brand, which has been serving smoked favorites since opening its first location in Texas in 1941, features classic American staples such as sliced or chopped brisket, coleslaw, barbecue beans and potato salad. In addition, longtime barbecue fans and newcomers alike can indulge their taste buds at the new Edmonton location, which will also serve chicken wings, fall-off-the-bone ribs, loaded baked potatoes and brisket burnt ends.

The new location in the Harvest Hill shopping center is Dickey’s Owner Operator Denis Melhem’s second location and the fourth Dickey’s Barbecue restaurant in Edmonton. A passionate hobbyist for barbecuing, Melhem is proud to continue sharing his love for the cuisine with his neighbors and invites everyone to celebrate the debut of his newest location May 15 through 17 for his community appreciation celebration.

Before doors open at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 15, Dickey’s is encouraging guests to get a spot in line early as they’ll be commemorating their opening with an array of can’t-miss giveaways and celebrations, including:

  • A Big Yellow Ticket Giveaway where fans will have the chance to win free barbecue for an entire year. In honor of the brand’s 85th anniversary, a total of 85 tickets will be distributed across three days (May 15 – 17), with 28 tickets available on Friday, 28 on Saturday, and 29 on Sunday. Each morning, the first 28 or 29 adults in line will receive a ticket. Customers must be ages 18 years or older to enter. Customers must be present to win.
  • Free face painting for kids on Saturday and Sunday.

“I’m so honored to bring more of our unmistakable Dickey’s taste to our fans here in Edmonton,” said Melhem. “Our growth is a testament to the demand of Dickey’s delicious barbecue. I’m proud to bring the community together with a dining experience that is focused on authentic flavors, genuine hospitality, and creating a place where friends and families can come together over great food and lasting memories.”

Melhem was recently recognized by Dickey’s for his commitment to upholding Dickey’s community values and consistently delivering a delicious barbecue experience. Melhem discussed what it means to be a Dickey’s franchisee and a proud Edmonton entrepreneur in this Q&A blog HERE and is featured in honor of National Barbecue Month kicking off May 1st.

The brand continues to expand internationally by partnering with owner-operators who share a passion for authentic barbecue, community engagement and delivering exceptional guest experiences. Backed by a vertically integrated model, Dickey’s continues to scale while staying true to its Texas roots by serving authentic, slow-smoked barbecue to guests nationwide.

Edmonton’s new Dickey’s location is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday with extended weekend hours from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
