Parsley Health Becomes the First Functional Medicine Provider to Accept Insurance Nationwide

Physician-Led, Root-Cause Care is Now In-Network for 150 Million Americans Across Hundreds of Major Health Plans

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Parsley Health, the first company that brought functional medicine to a national audience, is now the first to bring it into the mainstream insurance system. Starting today, its physician-led, root cause care is available nationwide through in-network insurance, expanding access to 150 million Americans through the coverage they already have.

Parsley now accepts hundreds of major plans – including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, BlueCross BlueShield, Humana, and Centene – covering eligible services such as provider visits, diagnostic testing, and clinician-directed prescriptions. The milestone marks a fundamental shift for a category that has historically been expensive, fragmented, and out of reach for most patients.

“When I founded Parsley Health a decade ago, my personal mission was to make quality, evidence-based functional medicine and longevity care available to everyone, and going in network nationally was the ultimate dream. I am proud to share that we are the first to make that dream a reality,” said Dr. Robin Berzin, Founder and CEO of Parsley Health. "Functional medicine was once a luxury item: expensive, hard to find, and inconsistent quality. Parsley has solved all three problems. We’re giving Americans access to care that both optimizes health and treats disease sustainably - and bringing us one step closer to a truly proactive, preventative healthcare system.”

This announcement builds on Parsley’s phased expansion into insurance over the past two years. In 2023, the company first went in-network in New York through a partnership with Mount Sinai Hospital, followed by expansion into California. Today’s nationwide rollout represents a tenfold increase in coverage – and a significant step forward for functional and longevity medicine into standard care delivery.

The timing reflects a growing urgency. Today, three in four American adults live with at least one chronic condition, and more than half manage multiple. Chronic disease now accounts for 90 percent of the nation’s $4.9 trillion in annual healthcare spending (CDC, 2025), yet the system remains largely designed to manage symptoms rather than address their underlying causes. It’s why consumers are increasingly looking elsewhere: the global health and wellness market now stands at $6.8 trillion and is projected to surpass $10 trillion by 2030, with over 60 percent of U.S. consumers naming wellness a top priority – fueling explosive growth in functional medicine, a market expected to grow from $29 billion to over $229 billion by 2033.

Parsley’s model is built to meet that need. Its board-certified clinicians take a systems-based approach, investigating how interconnected factors — from hormones and metabolism to gut health and inflammation – contribute to conditions such as fatigue, autoimmune conditions, metabolic dysfunction, infertility, menopause, and persistent GI issues. The results are measurable: 89 percent of members report significant symptom improvement or complete resolution within their first year, based on the Parsley Symptom Index, a proprietary outcomes tool developed in alignment with FDA guidelines and validated in peer-reviewed research.

"Today 65% of Quest's business is chronic disease care and 35% is prevention and wellness. We would love to flip that ratio because that would mean our country's population would be healthier. Parsley Health bringing functional medicine and longevity care in-network nationally is a huge milestone for the industry towards this shared goal. It shows that proactive, personalized, preventive care that both treats disease and optimizes health is going mainstream. We are proud partners of Parsley Health," says Jim Davis, Chairman, CEO, and President of Quest Diagnostics.

In addition to insurance-covered medical care, members pay a $125 monthly non-covered program fee ($1,500/year, billed annually), which supports the full Parsley experience – including functional nutrition coaching, detailed lab interpretation and root-cause care planning, proactive care between visits, care coordination, unlimited messaging with your care team, and access to Parsley's technology platform and wellness resources. This compares favorably to typical out-of-pocket functional medicine costs, where initial consultations alone can run $250-$1,000+, and comprehensive programs range from $2,000 to $15,000 per year – all without insurance coverage.
