World Wide Technology Honored with Webby Award for 2026 Special Olympics USA Games ‘Champions’ App

WWT recognized with ‘Internet’s Highest Honor’ for AI-enabled mobile application that personalizes experience for 90,000 users including athletes, coaches, volunteers and fans

ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--World Wide Technology (WWT), a global technology solutions provider, today announced the company won a prestigious Webby Award for its development of the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games “Champions” mobile application. WWT was recognized in the Apps, Software & Immersive category for Best Practices and was named a People’s Voice winner.

Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international awards organization honoring excellence on the Internet. This year’s winners were selected from nearly 13,000 entries worldwide.

WWT developed the Champions app to support the scale and complexity of the 2026 USA Games, to be held in Minnesota from June 20-26, uniting 90,000 people including athletes, heads of delegations, coaches, volunteers and fans from all 50 states to shine a light on the abilities and strengths of people with intellectual disabilities. The app, which officially launches in May, will help the wide variety of users to navigate shifting schedules, sprawling venues and nonstop updates, bringing schedules, live wayfinding, results and more into a single, role-based experience so everyone always knows what’s next and can focus on enjoying the Games and celebrating the athletes.

Unlike traditional sports apps that focus on a primary event or game each day, the Champions app will support the wide variety of 90,000 users and up to 1,000 events per day and includes resources for after the Games conclude. The app also provides personalized experiences for seven core personas, such as athlete, coach, volunteer or fan, to enable access to features specific to each role, including in-app badges for access to certain venues, tailored schedules, relevant events and results, contact directories and volunteer hour tracking. By removing irrelevant functionality and surfacing only what each user needs, the app reduces confusion and creates a more intuitive, streamlined experience tailored to the individual. Additionally, the app increases accessibility through features such as AI-powered voice input and read-aloud responses to allow for easier navigation no matter one’s cognitive ability.

“WWT built the Champions app to make the 2026 USA Games more accessible, personalized and easier to navigate for everyone involved,” said Josh Hogan, Vice President and General Manager of Digital and AI Solutions at WWT. “From the start, we focused on understanding the wide range of user needs, removing complexity and incorporating AI functionality where it adds real value. We are honored to receive this recognition, which is a testament to our innovative approach and to the impact the app experience will undoubtedly have for the Special Olympics community this summer and beyond.”

In addition to this recognition, WWT received two Webby Awards in 2020 for its development of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital mobile app to improve patient experience. WWT works with many major brands to create seamless, engaging and scalable digital experiences for customers, employees, patients, students, athletes and fans for sustained competitive advantage.
