Hon. Ellen M. Spodek (Ret.) Joins NAM’s Esteemed Panel of Neutrals

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation) is proud to announce that the Honorable Ellen M. Spodek (Ret.), former Justice of the New York State Supreme Court, Kings County, has joined NAM’s award-winning panel of neutrals. She is available to arbitrate and mediate cases throughout New York.

Judge Spodek brings more than two decades of distinguished judicial service to NAM, having served the New York State Unified Court System in multiple roles, including as a Justice of the Supreme Court, Supervising Judge of the Civil Court of Kings County, and Acting Family Court Judge. Most recently, she presided over the Medical Malpractice Trial Readiness Part in Supreme Court managing complex medical malpractice litigation and ensuring cases are trial ready. She also presided over Article 81 guardianship proceedings, the Central Compliance Part resolving discovery disputes, a Medical Malpractice Early Settlement Part, and conducted both jury and non-jury trials in civil matters.

Throughout her judicial career, Justice Spodek presided over a broad spectrum of civil matters, including medical malpractice, construction accidents, labor law, automobile liability, contract disputes, and general negligence actions. In her over 20 years on the bench, she led daily settlement conferences and presided over more than 1,000 medical malpractice matters, developing a reputation for efficiently guiding parties toward resolution.

Before her judicial career, Justice Spodek was a partner in private practice, concentrating on civil litigation with an emphasis on negligence and employment matters. She also served as Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Tort Division of the New York City Law Department, where she represented the City in personal injury and wrongful death actions. This combination of public service and private practice provides her with a well-rounded perspective on litigation strategy and case valuation.

“Justice Spodek’s extensive experience across all levels of the New York trial courts, combined with her hands-on approach to case management and settlement, makes her an exceptional addition to NAM,” said Mark Haddad, CEO of NAM. “Her ability to handle complex matters and facilitate meaningful resolutions aligns perfectly with our commitment to delivering top-tier ADR services.”

“I am honored to join NAM and look forward to helping parties resolve disputes in a fair, efficient, and thoughtful manner,” said Justice Spodek. “My experience on the bench has reinforced the importance of alternative dispute resolution in achieving practical and equitable outcomes.”
