Most Texans Say They’re Happy With Their Electricity Provider. New Data From Base Power Shows 7 in 10 Are Overpaying for Electricity.

Base Power launches Base Energy, a new electricity plan designed to save the majority of Texans on their monthly electricity bill.

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Base Power today announced the launch of Base Energy, its new electricity plan that is guaranteed to stay below the market average. It's the next step in the company's mission to deliver affordable, reliable power to all Texans.

Base Power members pay less because of their unique business model. While traditional providers profit from quiet rate increases and hidden fees, Base operates a fleet of home batteries that generate revenue by supporting the Texas grid. Those earnings come back to members in the form of a low, fixed rate, guaranteed to stay below market.

The launch follows new data from the company showing a disconnect in the Texas electricity market: while 81% of Texans report being satisfied with their provider, 7 in 10 households are overpaying for electricity.

"Base Energy customers balance the load on our home batteries, and together they form a distributed power plant that keeps the lights on and bills low for all Texans. That's how we guarantee a below-market rate, not just at signup, but at every renewal," said Zach Dell, CEO and co-founder of Base Power.

Base Energy is now available across major Texas utility territories—including Oncor, CenterPoint, TNMP, and AEP—serving Dallas-Fort Worth, Greater Houston, and other key population centers statewide. This marks the company’s first offering that does not require a home battery. To see how much you could save, visit basepowercompany.com/energy.

These findings are based on a March 2026 consumer survey conducted of Texas residents in deregulated electricity markets, as well as an analysis of thousands of electricity bills submitted through Base Power’s rate comparison tool. The bill comparison is made up of a sample of Texans that submitted their bill on Base Power’s website and may not be representative of all Texas electricity consumers.
