Workato Earns ISO/IEC 42001 Certification, Extending Its Enterprise AI Governance Lead

Independent certification gives enterprise customers a verified benchmark for evaluating AI platform governance

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Workato®, the leader in Enterprise Model Context Protocol (MCP), has achieved ISO/IEC 42001 certification, the world's first international standard for AI Management Systems (AIMS). The certification provides independent, third-party validation that Workato's AI practices meet global standards for responsible AI development and deployment.

ISO/IEC 42001 was developed to address risks unique to AI systems, including bias, explainability, data quality, and responsible use. It defines requirements for organizations to establish, implement, and maintain an AI management system. Achieving this certification means Workato's approach to AI governance has been audited and verified against these requirements.

For enterprise customers evaluating how to operationalize AI safely, the certification provides a clear answer. "AI governance has become a core part of how we evaluate any platform we bring into production. Knowing that Workato's practices have been independently certified against an international standard gives our team something concrete to point to," said Al Linke, Vice President & Head of IT Enterprise Applications, SentinelOne. Together with Workato's broader compliance posture spanning SOC 1 Type II, SOC 2 Type II, PCI-DSS 4.0.1, ISO 27001:2022, ISO 27701:2019, HIPAA, IRAP, and now ISO/IEC 42001, every layer of Workato operates under an enforceable, auditable policy.

ISO/IEC 42001 certifies Workato's AI management practices, including how Workato evaluates AI risk, governs AI model usage, and maintains accountability across its AI operations. At the platform level, Workato has a complementary set of product-level governance capabilities that give enterprises control over how AI operates within their own environments:

  • Enterprise MCP provides security teams with complete visibility and control over how enterprise systems are accessed through Workato, with actions tied to individual end-user credentials, scoped permissions, and a full audit trail.
  • Enterprise Skills enforce deterministic agent behavior, giving security and compliance teams confidence that AI actions are auditable and repeatable.
  • Zero-trust architecture supports a strong security posture by ensuring every connection is authenticated, encrypted in transit and at rest, and continuously monitored.
  • Clear data use boundaries mean enterprises always know how their data is handled, with customer data never used to train AI models or shared with third parties.

"Anyone can claim their AI practices are responsible. ISO/IEC 42001 means a third party has verified ours. For enterprises deploying AI agents at scale, that distinction isn't just meaningful—it's the foundation that makes security, governance, and reliability possible. That's what trust looks like in practice,” said Hans Gustavson, Chief Information Security Officer, Workato.

ISO/IEC 42001 certification is the latest step in Workato's ongoing commitment to making enterprise AI trustworthy by design. As AI becomes central to how enterprises operate, Workato believes governance cannot be an afterthought. It has to be the foundation that every agent and workflow is built on.
