Habitat for Humanity Remains Front and Center at Upcoming James Hardie™ Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational

BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As the legends of football and golf prepare to tee it up at the second annual James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational in Boca Raton, FL, this week, James Hardie Building Products Inc. (James Hardie), the North American leader in exterior design solutions, is also helping Habitat for Humanity fulfill its vision of everyone having a decent place to live.

James Hardie is putting its purpose, Building a Better Future for All™, into action around the unique PGA TOUR Champions tournament by continuing two initiatives to support Habitat for Humanity, a cornerstone charity partner of the event:

  • James Hardie supported the construction of a new Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County home for an Army National Guard veteran. The project was a community effort, with students from Seminole Ridge High School’s Weitz Construction Academy taking the lead on construction. The students gained valuable hands-on experience by managing nearly every aspect of the build, from framing and roofing to plumbing and electrical work. The new 1,375 sq. ft. home features Hardie® fiber cement siding that is designed to deliver resilience in coastal environments and withstand harsh weather conditions – helping ensure the home stands the test of time.
  • During the tournament week, James Hardie is also bringing back its celebrated #BirdiesForBuilds initiative to support Habitat for Humanity International. James Hardie will donate $100 for every birdie made throughout the week by PGA TOUR Champions professionals, Pro Football Hall of Fame alumni as well as amateurs participating in a series of Pro-Ams throughout the week – up to $100,000 to help build safe, affordable housing for families in need. And it’s not just the players who can make an impact – fans attending the tournament will also have the chance to participate by visiting the Hardie Hub near the first tee at the Old Course at Broken Sound during tournament week. The company will donate $10 to Habitat for Humanity for every putt made on the James Hardie green, which will be included in the total up to $100,000.

“Our decision to support this tournament came with a clear commitment, made in partnership with the Pro Football Hall of Fame and PGA TOUR Champions: Leverage the power of these two sports and their legends to help build more resilient communities,” said Amanda Cimaglia, Vice President of Global Sustainability, James Hardie. “In fact, this new home is the fifth Habitat for Humanity home that has been built in conjunction with the tournament, with additional homes built in South Florida, Canton, and Chicago.”

James Hardie has been a long-time sponsor of Habitat for Humanity International – providing both product and monetary donations to support projects around the world. Over the past three years, the company has also sponsored the organization’s ‘Habitat Strong’ program, which builds affordable and more climate-resilient homes that can withstand severe weather conditions and natural disasters.

*Hardie® fiber cement products are noncombustible and/or have a Class A fire rating when tested in accordance with ASTM E84. Fiber cement fire resistance does not extend to applied paints or coatings, which may be damaged or char when exposed to flames. The use of noncombustible siding, combined with other fire mitigation measures, may help harden a home against external fire.
