Avangrid Foundation Awards $250,000 in Grants to Wildlife Rehabilitation Centers

The Foundation’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Program has given more than $1.25 Million in grants through its 10-year history

ORANGE, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Avangrid Foundation, the philanthropic arm of leading energy company Avangrid Inc., a member of the Iberdrola Group, today announced that it has awarded $250,000 in grant funding to 13 wildlife rehabilitation centers across the nation as part of its Wildlife Rehabilitation Program. The Program goals include supporting local organizations caring for injured wildlife, promoting public outreach and education about wildlife resources and energy, and strengthening relationships with the environmental community where the company operates.

Now in its 10th year, Avangrid’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Program has given more than $1.25 million in grants to organizations nationwide. This round of grantees spans 11 states. Grantees, listed in alphabetical order, include:

  • Connecticut Zoological Society, Inc - Beardsley Zoo (Connecticut): Acquire and implement a Therapeutic (Cold) Laser unit to provide non-invasive treatment for pain, inflammation, arthritis, and wound recovery for birds, reptiles, and mammals.
  • Hawks Aloft (New Mexico): Surgical instruments and medical supplies & construct 2 additional flight cages.  Hire part-time registered veterinary tech.
  • Janet L Swanson Wildlife Hospital - Cornell University (New York): 2 large hospital enclosures intended for eagles requiring intensive veterinary care.
  • Liberty Wildlife (Arizona): Refurbishing rehabilitation enclosure for passerines.
  • Marine Mammals of Maine (Maine): Flexible general operating support to help aid our existing triage and rehabilitation programs.
  • National Marine Life Center (Massachusetts): Discovery Center renovations - includes ADA compliant items, signage, the addition of walls and paint.
  • New England Wildlife Centers and Birdsey Cape Wildlife Center (Massachusetts): Renovate and modernize two critical pieces of infrastructure: large-flight aviary for birds of prey.
  • Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary (North Carolina): Become a fully licensed facility to accept Rabies Vector Species.
  • Red Creek Wildlife Center (Pennsylvania): Raptor food costs of 8,500 feeder animals, including frozen mice, rats, hamsters, and quail, the foundation of nutrition for birds of prey.
  • Saving our Avian Resources, SOAR (Iowa): Add housing suitable for the addition of a non-releasable Great Horned Owl to SOAR's education ambassadors available for programming.
  • Think Wild (Oregon): Essential medical supplies, specialized diets, laboratory services, and animal care materials needed to sustain full capacity operations in 2026.
  • Wildlife Works (Pennsylvania): Paid Summer Internship stipend.
  • World Bird Sanctuary (Missouri) Working towards a Bald Eagle Rehab and Fostering Aviary.
