Cost remains a significant barrier to routine pet care and veterinarian visits, as 55% of pet owners cite it as the biggest barrier to preventive care1 and 80% have faced surprise vet bills averaging $1,1002, according to MetLife Pet Insurance’s research.

“Pet insurance helps families care for their pets and worry less about unexpected costs,” said Brian Jorgensen, CEO of MetLife Pet Insurance. “By working with Petstablished, we’re making it easier for people to consider coverage when they adopt, so they’re prepared and have support for the unexpected right away. Our goal is to help more pets stay in loving homes by easing the financial burden of care.”

When pet parents adopt or microchip their pet through a Petstablished partner animal welfare organization, they can receive a personalized quote from MetLife Pet Insurance during the online process and include the cost of coverage when paying the adoption fee, ensuring their new pet is protected before leaving the shelter. There’s a range of coverage options available from emergencies-only to preventive care, that can cover routine wellness visits, vaccinations, dental cleanings, spay/neuter procedures, and behavioral training.

“By collaborating with MetLife Pet Insurance, a leading provider in the industry, we’re making preventive care more accessible from the very start of a pet’s journey home,” said Marc Thalheim, Founder, Petstablished. “Integrating pet insurance into the adoption and microchipping process helps families protect their pets from the start, removing financial uncertainty and supporting long-term health and well-being.”
