Socure Names Matt Thompson President & Chief Commercial Officer in the Wake of Accelerating Hypergrowth

Sets stage for market leadership in a $100B TAM space as company becomes the core identity and risk infrastructure provider everywhere that trust matters on the Internet

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Socure, the AI-first platform for global identity and risk decisioning, has named Matthew Thompson President and Chief Commercial Officer to partner with Founder and CEO Johnny Ayers to lead the company’s global expansion, commercial, public sector and workforce hypergrowth, and accelerate the building of the industry’s first decacorn.

Thompson, a digital identity pioneer and a highly decorated combat veteran, most recently served as Socure’s Chief Revenue Officer (CRO). Under his leadership, the company most recently achieved 51 percent year-over-year revenue growth for Q3, has been profitable for 10 months in a row, is on track to book more than $100 million of new business in 2025, exceed 130% Net Dollar Retention and deliver six consecutive quarters outperforming aggressive targets with Gross Dollar Retention of >99%. Processing tens of billions of identity and risk events a year, with ARR nearing $300M, Socure continues to rapidly distance itself from the rest of the market with its superior approval rates, fraud capture rates and AI-on-offense capabilities.

During this period, Socure also accelerated its evolution from an identity verification solution provider to a full end-to-end identity and risk-decisioning platform with RiskOS fast becoming the operating system that the world’s most valuable enterprises use to make every identity, compliance, and fraud decision globally. Thompson played a key role in the integration of Effectiv, the market’s first unified identity, fraud, and risk decision engine, and Qlarifi, the first real-time Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) consumer credit database. He is also leading the company’s international expansion, with global growth accelerating to the point where more than one-third of Q3 deals were entirely outside of the U.S.

Prior to this role, Thompson served as the company’s first public sector leader, launching and rapidly scaling Socure’s government business into a market leader serving more than 100 federal, state, and local agencies. Through it all, with the Team of Teams leadership model, he has fostered a culture of excellence centered on shared accountability, customer-first problem solving, and high-performance execution. Promoting and growing from within is a key tenet of Socure’s talent strategy, and will continue to be the way Socure builds and develops its next generation of leaders.

“Matt is a true pioneer and a disciplined, effective leader shaping the future of identity innovation,” said Johnny Ayers, Founder and CEO of Socure. “He brings a clear and compelling vision for how identity has become the cornerstone of the digital economy, and he has consistently exceeded every expectation and stretch goal we’ve set in scaling Socure. From launching our public sector business to driving extraordinary growth as our Chief Revenue Officer, Matt has delivered outsized impact both financially and culturally at every turn. Over the years, Matt has become my trusted partner in shaping and leading the company, someone who pushes my thinking, elevates our speed and quality of execution, and strengthens from a leadership and development perspective every part of our organization. Matt is the right person to stand with me as we guide Socure into a new era of AI innovation, global expansion, and category leadership.”

“We are at a defining moment for the future of digital identity in the age of AI,” said Thompson. “Identity has become the foundational infrastructure that powers trust across the modern digital economy, and the world needs cutting-edge platforms and solutions for how it is built and protected. Partnering with Johnny and the entire Socure team to advance this vital mission is an extraordinary opportunity, the culmination of nearly two decades of work in this space. Together, we will build this new category, scale our impact globally, and solve our customers’ most complex challenges as we deliver the next generation of identity and risk-decisioning infrastructure everywhere trust matters on the Internet and around the world.”

Meeting the Moment in a New Era of Identity
Thompson steps into this newly created role at a pivotal time. Digital identity has become the foundational infrastructure for trust, safety, and broad participation in the digital economy, and Socure has established itself as the industry’s most accurate and comprehensive platform for identity verification, age verification, business verification, anti-money laundering compliance, and fraud prevention. As identity moves to the center of every digital transaction and AI agent workflow, Thompson has led the charge to innovate in 40+ market sectors from banking, fintech and the public sector to gaming, prediction markets, marketplaces, Big Tech and generative AI platforms.

Meanwhile, the landscape is shifting at an unprecedented pace. AI is accelerating innovation in authentication and digital commerce via the explosion of agents, while simultaneously enabling bad actors to launch attacks at scale and with little required investment. Deepfakes, synthetic identities, and automated injection attacks are reshaping the trust equation, making it harder than ever for commercial enterprises, employers and governments to stay ahead of the emerging threats with machine identities now surpassing human identities with a ratio of 80:1 on the Internet.

This moment demands leaders who can see around corners and build the systems required for this AI-enabled future. Socure’s evolution into the internet’s risk-decisioning platform of choice, combined with Thompson’s track record of operational excellence and cross-sector leadership, positions the company to help organizations navigate this new era of identity and AI threats. Together, they are meeting the moment by delivering the accuracy, speed, and resilience required to enable secure transactions and stop fraud in this shifting landscape.

About Thompson
For nearly two decades, Thompson has worked tirelessly to transform digital identity. He holds three patents spanning mobile biometric liveness detection and tiered and third-party authentication. In the commercial sector, he co-founded and served as president of ID.me; led IDEMIA’s Identity and Security North America business as senior vice president and general manager; and held a senior leadership role on Capital One’s identity services team, which became the first U.S. bank to externalize and commercialize identity solutions for enterprise customers. Earlier in his career, he held positions at McKinsey & Company and Goldman Sachs.

Thompson also served for a decade in the U.S. Army, completing four combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. As a Special Operations Officer, he refined the “Team of Teams” leadership model, designed to improve alignment, adaptability, speed, and efficiency in organizational decision-making.

He graduated as First Captain from the Virginia Military Institute and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School.
