OhioHealth to Scale Abridge AI Platform Across 200+ Ambulatory Sites

Following a competitive pilot, OhioHealth is expanding Abridge to thousands of clinicians to improve wellbeing and enhance patient care.

PITTSBURGH & COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--OhioHealth, a not-for-profit, charitable healthcare outreach of the United Methodist Church, is scaling Abridge’s enterprise-grade AI platform for clinical conversations to thousands of ambulatory care clinicians following a rigorous, competitive evaluation and pilot.

This collaboration reflects OhioHealth’s commitment to reducing administrative burden for clinicians and delivering high-quality care to 1.6 million patients across more than 200 ambulatory care settings annually.

“At OhioHealth, we believe that technology should support the human connection at the heart of care,” said Dr. Andrew Narcelles, Medical Director of Clinical informatics at OhioHealth. “Our collaboration with Abridge is reducing the administrative burden for our clinicians and enabling them to connect with patients rather than computer screens.”

Clinicians who participated in the pilot reported a 59% reduction in cognitive load, a 28% decrease in time spent writing notes outside of work hours, and a significant increase in their ability to give patients undivided attention.

After deploying Abridge among primary care, women’s health, and neurology clinicians, OhioHealth is now expanding to all ambulatory providers, including oncology, heart and vascular, surgery, acute care, and graduate medical education. The 16-hospital health system is exploring additional use cases in nursing, emergency medicine, and inpatient care.

“After a thoughtful evaluation, Abridge stood out not only for its exceptional note quality and electronic health record integration, but for the strength of our working relationship,” said Andrea Darby, Vice President of Information Technology Strategy & Architecture at OhioHealth. “The team’s responsiveness and flexibility made the decision clear. This partnership reflects our long-term vision and values: building a future where innovation truly supports care teams and the communities we serve.”

OhioHealth is also aligned with Abridge’s future platform roadmap, which will tackle other administrative challenges for patients and health systems, like enabling real-time prior authorization approval at the point of conversation.

“OhioHealth took a rigorous approach to selecting Abridge and now they’re moving fast,” said Dr. Shiv Rao, CEO and Co-Founder of Abridge. “This isn’t just about scaling technology, it’s about scaling trust. Together, we’re showing what’s possible when innovation is grounded in clinician wellbeing and community impact.”
