MIRAMAR, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CITEL, a global expert in surge protection, proudly announces the relocation of its North American operations to Hillsborough, North Carolina, in mid-2026. The company’s new 82,900-square-foot headquarters will house CITEL’s administration, manufacturing, engineering, and sales and marketing operations, reflecting four decades of successful US business expansion since its initial entry into the American market in 1985.

“The new Hillsborough headquarters represents CITEL’s most significant US investment to date and reaffirms our long-term commitment to serving the North American market,” said Henri Guichard, President, CITEL Group. “We are grateful and want to thank everyone we have met from the state of North Carolina for the warm welcome and support that have made us feel truly at home from the very beginning of this project.”

CITEL selected Hillsborough for its skilled workforce, business-friendly environment and proximity to Research Triangle Park (RTP). The company plans to partner with leading RTP research institutions and build a UL-certified surge test laboratory, giving the company three certified labs across three continents.

“This expansion marks a pivotal step for CITEL,” said Patrick Coyle, Vice President, CITEL Inc. "By combining advanced engineering, surge test laboratories and domestic manufacturing in one location, CITEL RTP will feed our innovation and allow us to be even more responsive to our local customers and long-term partners.”

This strategic move will bring 79 full-time jobs between 2025-2029 and drive $15.25 million in capital investment between 2026-2030. New positions are expected to offer an average annual salary of approximately $83,611, significantly above the current county average of $69,728.

“North Carolina is on the rise, and companies like CITEL are taking notice,” said Governor Josh Stein. “With our world-class workforce and collaborative ‘Team North Carolina’ approach to economic development, we’re proud to welcome these new jobs to Orange County and are confident CITEL will find great success here.”

The relocation follows productive meetings in Paris between CITEL leadership and NC officials held during the 2025 Paris Air Show.

“CITEL could have chosen any location for their U.S. home, but they chose North Carolina,” said NC Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley. “Their decision reinforces the strength of our workforce and the partnerships that make our state a top destination for business.”

With this expansion, CITEL further strengthens its globally connected, locally rooted presence, delivering the most advanced surge protection technologies in the US and around the world.
