UL Solutions Warns of Mislabeled Child Life Jackets

A limited run of mislabeled Kent Watersports child life jackets poses a potential danger due to reduced buoyancy

NORTHBROOK, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UL Solutions, a global leader in applied safety science, today issued a warning that a limited run of Kent Watersports CSF-2 child life jackets was mislabeled by the manufacturer to indicate both 50–90 lbs. (23–41 kg) and under 50 lbs. (23 kg) weight ranges, even though they are certified only for children under 50 lbs. (23 kg), creating a risk of overloading, reduced buoyancy and potential danger to users.

The affected CSF-2 life jackets bear the UL Mark, Marine UL Listed Near-Shore Buoyant Vest, Issue Number B8542, and U.S. Coast Guard approval 160.060/40/1. Approximately 2,500 of these life jackets were sold under lot numbers 2J2091, 2J2093, 2J2094, 2J2095, 2J2096, 2J2097, 2J2098 and 2J2099 at sporting goods stores and other retailers across the United States.

UL Solutions recommends that anyone who owns one of these mislabeled life jackets stop using it immediately and remove it from service.

Since certifying its first PFD for buoyancy and flammability in 1971, UL Solutions has remained at the forefront of PFD testing. In 1972, the U.S. Coast Guard recognized its Research Triangle Park laboratory as one of only two worldwide facilities authorized to evaluate PFDs. UL Solutions still holds this distinction today. For more than 50 years, the company’s dedicated team of engineers and laboratory technicians has rigorously tested PDFs for performance, durability and compliance with required safety standards.

UL Solutions offers testing and certification for PFDs to regulatory requirements and standards in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
