DataLocker Becomes World’s First to Achieve FIPS 140-3 Level 3 & TAA Compliance Across Both Portable Hard Drive and Flash Drive Categories

New DL4 and Sentry K350 combine top-tier certification with smartscreen usability and optional SafeConsole® centralized management.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DataLocker, a global leader in encryption solutions, today announced a significant industry milestone. As of today, DataLocker is the only vendor worldwide to achieve FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validation across both portable hard drive and USB flash drive categories, while maintaining full Trade Agreements Act (TAA) compliance for a fully trusted supply chain.

This achievement helps military, federal, and regulated enterprise customers who have previously been forced to choose between security certified to the older FIPS 140-2 standard and real-world usability. The validations were confirmed by the NIST Cryptographic Module Validation Program under Certificates #5091 and #5092.

The Simply Secure Difference: Smartscreen Keypads vs. Blind PIN-pads

A key differentiator for the newly validated devices is the interfaces. Other PIN-pad USB drives force users to work "blind," relying on manual interpretations of colored blink codes and entering long strings without visual feedback. DataLocker’s smartscreen technology replaces this guesswork with clarity:

  • Visual Verification: Users see characters briefly confirmed on-screen as they type, dramatically reducing typing errors and lockouts.
  • True Alphanumeric Security: Unlike numeric keypads that use "phoneword" markings as memory aids for digits, DataLocker smartscreens support complex passwords containing actual letters, numbers, and special characters.
  • Guided Workflows: On-screen prompts guide users through setup, unlocking, and password resets, allowing them to correct mistakes before committing a failed attempt.
  • Streamlined Support: When IT support is required, both the administrator and the user can refer to clear on-screen messages rather than describing blinking light patterns, significantly shortening call times.

New Industry Benchmarks

DL4 – FIPS 140-3 Level 3 Portable Hard Drive

The DL4 is the world’s only TAA-compliant, FIPS 140-3 Level 3 portable hard drive. Designed for high-assurance environments, it features:

  • Randomized Touchscreen Keypad: Smartscreen guidance for secure, intuitive unlock and setup.
  • SilentKill™: Emergency data destruction and hardened tamper-resistance for high-threat scenarios.
  • Centralized Management: Full SafeConsole® integration for remote policy enforcement, remote kill, and detailed audit trails.
  • Scalable Capacities: Available in a range of capacities to support standardization across teams.

Sentry K350 – FIPS 140-3 Level 3 USB Flash Drive

The Sentry K350 stands as the only TAA-compliant, FIPS 140-3 Level 3 Encrypted USB flash drive featuring a status display. Key features include:

  • Smartscreen: Provides clear status updates and password entry confirmation.
  • Rugged Design: IP68 and MIL-STD-810G-tested housing built to withstand drops, shocks, and environmental stress.
  • Rapid Deployment: Compatible with DeviceDeployer tools, allowing secure configurations in seconds rather than minutes.
  • Powerful Bootability: Works across industrial, medical, and IT equipment and serves as a bootable drive for firmware updates, log collection, ransomware recovery, and forensics.

“We believe complexity is the enemy of security. When users have to guess what a blinking light means, mistakes happen and data is put at risk,” said Jay Kim, CEO of DataLocker. “By achieving FIPS 140-3 Level 3 across both portable hard drive and flash drive categories with our smartscreen technology, we are proving that ‘Simply Secure’ isn’t just a tagline—it’s the new requirement for high-assurance storage. Customers and partners can now standardize on a single, TAA-compliant source for top-tier portable secure storage.”

Availability and Certifications

The DL4 and Sentry K350 are available immediately through major resellers and distributors worldwide. Both products are fully manageable via SafeConsole® for remote policy enforcement and audit logging.
