Infleqtion Chief Scientist Dr. Mark Saffman Wins Prestigious 2026 Norman F. Ramsey Prize

Award from American Physical Society honors Dr. Saffman’s pioneering work in neutral-atom quantum technologies

BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Infleqtion, a global leader in neutral atom–based quantum technology, proudly announces that Dr. Mark Saffman, Chief Scientist for Quantum Information at Infleqtion, has been awarded the prestigious Norman F. Ramsey Prize by the American Physical Society (APS). This recognition underscores the global scientific validation of the neutral-atom approach that powers Infleqtion’s product roadmap, bridging world-class academic research with engineered quantum systems designed for scale, reliability, and real-world impact. Infleqtion recently announced plans to go public through a merger with Churchill Capital Corp X (NASDAQ: CCCX).

The Norman F. Ramsey Prize honors outstanding accomplishments in Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) physics and precision tests of fundamental laws and symmetries. APS recognized Dr. Saffman “for seminal developments of quantum information processing with neutral atoms that allow the investigation of many-body problems that are intractable by classical computing.” His foundational work, including the first CNOT gate for atomic qubits and advances in Rydberg-mediated entanglement, helped establish neutral-atom systems as a leading platform for scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computers.

As a Professor of Physics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Dr. Saffman developed pioneering techniques for quantum control of neutral atoms and demonstrated the use of Rydberg blockade for high-fidelity two-qubit operations. He later joined forces with Infleqtion to accelerate the transition from laboratory innovation to engineered systems, co-authoring the first demonstration of a quantum algorithm executed on an atomic quantum computer.

“It’s an incredible honor to receive the Ramsey Prize, and I’m deeply grateful to the colleagues and students who have shared this journey,” said Dr. Saffman. “The decision to pursue Rydberg-mediated entanglement more than two decades ago shaped my career and helped establish neutral atoms as a leading platform for quantum computing. Today at Infleqtion, we’re taking that same scientific foundation and building engineered systems designed to scale, deliver reliability, and enable discoveries that were once out of reach.”

Today, Dr. Saffman’s work is instrumental in Infleqtion’s mission to deliver scalable, fault-tolerant quantum solutions across its entire portfolio.
