70% of Engineering Leaders Say AI Won’t Replace Engineers, Reveals New Superblocks Report

Superblocks new research reveals that AI is reshaping vs. replacing engineering roles

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Superblocks, the enterprise vibe coding platform purpose built for internal enterprise apps, today announced the release of its 2025 survey: The State of Enterprise Vibe Coding. The survey is based on responses from 50 global C-suite and VP-level executives at companies ranging from 500 to more than 10,000 employees across SaaS, finance, and infrastructure industries, and explores how AI and vibe coding are impacting engineering roles within the enterprise.

Despite ongoing debate over whether AI and vibe coding will replace engineers, most leaders agree the technology is expanding engineering capacity rather than reducing it.

Key Findings

  • 70% of leaders disagree or strongly disagree that vibe coding will replace core engineering functions
  • 72% of companies plan to hire the same or more engineers in 2026
  • 50% of enterprises say non-engineering teams (e.g. operations, product managers, and data analysts) are now using Al to build internal applications

As non-technical users gain access to vibe coding tools, core engineering teams are being reallocated to mission-critical projects that drive innovation and long-term value. When asked how they would reallocate 30% of their engineering time if freed up, executives overwhelmingly pointed to AI-driven initiatives and core product advancement.

Despite 72% of respondents reporting measurable ROI from AI tools, security, compliance, and control remain key concerns. Security (25.6%), compliance (19.2%), and model hallucinations or bias (17.9%) ranked as the top three challenges in adopting AI for internal tools. As more non-technical users gain access to vibe coding capabilities, leaders stressed the need for strong governance and visibility across teams to prevent data exposure and maintain consistent standards.

“We’re seeing a real inflection point in how software gets built,” said Brad Menezes, CEO and Co-founder of Superblocks. “Vibe coding tools are not only accelerating development but also making it accessible to non-technical users across the enterprise. It’s a powerful shift, but lasting success will depend on embedding security and governance into every layer of development.”
