Fifteen Northwell Hospitals Earn Top “A” Safety Grade From Leapfrog for Fall 2025

Rating reflects ongoing commitment to patient safety and quality care

NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fifteen Northwell Health hospitals have received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group for fall 2025, recognizing their commitment to protecting patients from preventable harm and delivering the highest standards of safety and quality care.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, the nation’s only rating program solely focused on hospital safety, assigns letter grades A through F to more than 3,000 acute-care hospitals across the country twice a year. Grades are based on hospitals’ performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

“This recognition reflects the dedication of our entire workforce to the safety and well-being of our patients,” said John D’Angelo, MD, president and CEO, Northwell Health. “We’re proud to see so many of our hospitals earn top marks from Leapfrog, which reinforces the system-wide culture of safety and quality that defines our care.”

The following Northwell hospitals received an “A” rating:

“Achieving this level of performance across so many hospitals doesn’t happen overnight,” said Peter Silver, MD, senior vice president and chief quality officer, Northwell Health. “It’s the result of relentless focus on evidence-based practices that reduce harm and improve outcomes for every patient we serve.”

This Leapfrog Group’s cycle marks the first since Nuvance Health joined Northwell Health earlier this year, expanding the system’s network of high-performing hospitals across Greater New York and Connecticut. With the inclusion of Putnam, Northern Dutchess, Sharon, and Danbury hospitals, all earning “A” grades, Northwell continues to strengthen its commitment to advancing safety, quality, and patient-centered care across an even broader footprint.

“Earning an “A” grade means Northwell Health made a true commitment to put patient safety first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”

The Leapfrog Group’s biannual grades are widely regarded as a trusted benchmark for consumers and health care professionals. An “A” grade indicates excellence in hospital safety across multiple measures, including staffing levels, infection prevention, hand hygiene compliance and responsiveness to critical events.
