Low-Power I2C/SPI-Bus-to-Dual-Channel UART Bridge from Diodes Incorporated Improves Automotive Connectivity Robustness

PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Diodes Incorporated (Diodes) (Nasdaq: DIOD) today announces the PI7C9X762Q, a high-performance automotive-compliant* I2C/SPI-bus-to-dual-channel UART bridge. The device’s low-power consumption during operation and in sleep mode makes it ideal for electric vehicle (EV) designs. Key application areas include smart cockpits, central controllers, I/O module controllers, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), telematics, and zonal gateways.

The PI7C9X762Q offers full bi-directional protocol conversion and supports SPI clock speeds of up to 33Mbps. The UART includes 64 bytes of TX/RX FIFOs with programmable trigger levels. It supports programmable character formatting, including 5-bit, 6-bit, 7-bit, or 8-bit characters; even, odd, or no parity; and 1, 1.5, or 2 stop bits. The device’s internal register set is backward compatible with equivalent UARTs on the market, which eases software development and migration.

Housed in a very small 32-contact TQFN package, measuring 5mm x 5mm, the UART bridge incorporates up to eight programmable and general-purpose I/O (GPIO) pins, offering flexible design options. It also offers advanced features, including auto-hardware and software flow control to provide a stable, safe, and cost-effective solution for robust interconnectivity. Further features include support for fractional baud rates, and the software reset function allows the UART to be reset at any instant, independent of a hardware reset signal.

The PI7C9X762Q is available at $3.68 in 1,000-piece quantities. A standard compliance version, PI7C9X762, is available and suitable for industrial and commercial applications.
