Kitsault Energy Proposes Bold Initiative for Canada’s Economic Prosperity and India’s Energy Security

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dr. Krishnan Suthanthiran, founder and president of Kitsault Energy (KE), has renewed calls for a Canada–India energy partnership centered around a dedicated pipeline corridor to Kitsault, British Columbia. The project aims to supply Indian markets with Canadian crude oil and natural gas in the form of liquid butanol—an alternative to LNG with lower transport and infrastructure costs.

“This project supports Canada's economy, empowers Indigenous communities, and meets India’s growing energy needs. It’s time to act,” states Suthanthiran. He is prepared and willing to meet with all stakeholders and move forward with the project.

This comes as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney promotes a vision of national economic unity and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announces plans for a new pipeline to BC. These developments align with KE’s long-term strategy to unlock Canada's energy potential and strengthen international trade, especially with India.

Canada–India Energy Vision

India currently relies on over 40 countries for energy. In 2016, Suthanthiran proposed a long-term crude oil and natural gas supply deal to Indian energy leaders, which was declined in favor of a Petronas project—later canceled, resulting in a $500 million USD loss for India.

KE’s updated proposal includes:

  • Dual pipelines from Alberta and northeastern BC to Kitsault/Observatory Inlet.
  • Floating butanol manufacturing facility at the port.
  • Export terminal for shipping liquid butanol to India.

Approved pipeline routes already exist via Spectra Energy/Enbridge, and KE holds a 20-year LNG export permit from Canada’s National Energy Board for up to 20 million tonnes annually.

Project Benefits

  • Deep-water port at Observatory Inlet with proximity to oil and gas reserves.
  • Reduced transport distances, housing infrastructure and existing approvals translate to billions USD in projected cost savings.
  • Strategic access to Asian markets via BC’s north coast.
  • Strong Indigenous engagement with opportunities in employment, education, healthcare, and housing.

Suthanthiran emphasizes that this initiative can create thousands of jobs, generate billions in tax revenue, and strengthen Canada’s position as a reliable energy exporter. India, in turn, would gain a stable, long-term energy partner at competitive pricing.

Additionally, the Best Cure Foundation, a Canadian non-profit founded by Suthanthiran, plans to build Pro Health Centers in the region, offering preventive healthcare services.

Time for Action

“This project supports Canada's economy, empowers Indigenous communities, and meets India’s growing energy needs. It’s time to act,” states Suthanthiran. He is prepared and willing to meet with all stakeholders and move forward with the project.
