Westcliff University Appoints Cesar Rivas-Sandoval as New Athletics Director

Proven Leader with 20 Years of Experience to Drive Excellence for Westcliff Warriors

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Westcliff University, a leading global institution in career-focused higher education, today announced the appointment of its new director of athletics, Cesar Rivas-Sandoval. With more than two decades in collegiate athletics, Rivas-Sandoval brings a proven ability to build competitive sports programs while fostering environments where student-athletes thrive academically, competitively and personally.

Rivas-Sandoval has held leadership and coaching roles across both NCAA and NAIA institutions, contributing to programs at Azusa Pacific University, Southeastern University, University of Sioux Falls, University of Tennessee–Martin and University of Nebraska–Kearney. Most recently, he served as deputy director of athletics at the University of La Verne, where he oversaw program development, operations and compliance, while supporting players across numerous varsity sports.

Westcliff Athletics has grown rapidly in recent years, and is now home to approximately 350 student-athletes. In the past five years, the program has earned 27 conference titles, 35 championships, 13 individual titles and eight national titles—milestones that set the stage for continued success under Rivas-Sandoval’s leadership.

Throughout his career, Rivas-Sandoval has championed a holistic approach to his work with collegiate athletes; one that prioritizes academic achievement, athletic performance and character development. He is equally committed to supporting coaches, trainers and staff by consistently building and reinforcing collaborative, welcoming cultures that shape well-rounded individuals and future leaders, not just great athletes.
