Base Power Launches in the City of Houston, Accelerating Statewide Growth With Its Innovative Model for Affordable, Reliable Home Energy

Houston homeowners can now access Base’s first-of-its-kind backup power and energy savings service, designed to cut costs and strengthen the Texas grid.

AUSTIN, Texas & HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Base Power, Texas’ only energy provider that comes with home backup power, today announced its official launch in the City of Houston, expanding its service into one of the largest and most important energy markets in the country. Base offers a simple, all-in-one energy plan that includes a whole-home backup battery—no solar required, though fully compatible for homes that do. When the grid goes down, the battery automatically powers the home. Unlike traditional backup systems with high upfront costs, Base earns revenue by providing services to the grid—enabling Houstonians to get reliable backup and real savings.

“Houston has long been the energy capital of Texas, yet it has also endured some of the nation’s most painful lessons about unreliable power,” said Zach Dell, CEO and co-founder of Base Power. “We see Houston not just as a place to expand, but as a proving ground for how the future of energy should work – resilient, dependable, and built to serve homeowners when it matters most.”

To give Houston homeowners additional protection, Base is introducing its new Generator Recharge Port. The feature lets a traditional portable generator plug directly into the Base battery system, enabling it to either power the entire home or recharge the battery during an extended outage. This integration can provide multi-day protection when the grid goes down. Interested homeowners can add the Generator Recharge Port for future installations.

Base’s expansion into Houston builds on its rapid growth across Texas. The company now serves homeowners in Greater Houston, the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, and the counties north of Austin. Its partnership with Lennar continues to scale aggressively across these regions, while utility collaborations with GVEC and Bandera Electric Cooperative showcase new models for grid resiliency. To date, Base has raised more than $270 million from leading investors to accelerate this statewide expansion and reinforce the Texas grid.

To support this growth, the company has opened a new office and warehouse in Katy, built a local team of more than 30 employees, and plans to expand further in the coming months. Base is also extending its partnership with Lennar into Houston, now serving 20 communities, including Sunterra, The Grand Prairie, and Anniston, across the metro area.
