STEMscopes Science Listed on Evidence for ESSA for Improving Science Outcomes

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Accelerate Learning’s STEMscopes Science study has earned Level 3 certification for alignment with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) standards. It is one of only five science programs listed on Evidence for ESSA, which provides information on programs meeting ESSA evidence standards.

The four ESSA Tiers of Evidence are designed to help districts and schools determine which programs work in which contexts and for which students. Level 3 certification demonstrates “Promising Evidence” of the efficacy of STEMscopes Science in driving positive student learning outcomes.

In 2024, Accelerate Learning contracted with the Center for Research and Reform in Education, a research center within Johns Hopkins School of Education, to conduct a quasi-experimental efficacy study. The study examined the impact of the STEMscopes Science curriculum on science achievement in a large Texas school district. The study followed 990 fifth graders during the 2023-24 school year in eight STEMscopes Science schools and eight comparison schools that used other science curricula.

The results showed a significant and large positive impact on students’ science achievement. On the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), STEMscopes Science students outscored comparison students by approximately 94 points; this impact was statistically significant. On the MAP science assessment, STEMscopes Science students outscored comparison students by 2.3 points, which approached statistical significance.
