Travelers Announces Most Frequent Wedding Claims of 2024

HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ahead of peak wedding season, The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRV) is highlighting the important role of wedding insurance. Unforeseen events, alongside common causes of loss demonstrated by Travelers wedding insurance claims, underscore the value of being prepared.

With the average cost of weddings projected to increase for the third year in a row, according to a report from wedding planning and registry company Zola, it’s more important than ever for couples and their families to understand the common pitfalls that can derail their event.

“Soon-to-be-weds already have enough to worry about leading up to their big day,” said Deidre LeBlanc, Vice President of Specialty Lines for Personal Insurance at Travelers. “By understanding the most common mishaps, they can be better prepared to handle unexpected challenges.”

For the fourth consecutive year, vendor issues topped the list as the most frequent cause of wedding insurance claims in 2024, representing 27% of all paid claims.

Beyond issues with vendors, the most common sources of claims included:

  • Illness or injuries (24%).
  • Extreme weather (22%).
  • Property damage (15%).

“No matter if there’s a cancellation due to venue damage, a covered illness, or a weather event, Travelers wedding insurance policies are designed to help provide peace of mind,” LeBlanc added.

The Travelers Wedding Protector Plan, subject to policy terms and conditions, provides coverage from the rehearsal dinner through the main event and brunch the morning after. To learn more about wedding insurance options available from Travelers, visit Travelers.com/event-insurance.
