Edgecore continues to pioneer Open Networking, being the first company to fully commit to the open computing movement through the Open Compute Project (OCP) in 2014 and one of the Top 10 contributors to OCP today. Recognizing the transformative potential of open-source networking, Edgecore took a bold step forward by fully embracing SONiC in its early stages, playing a crucial role in fostering the open ecosystem readiness.

To accelerate the maturity of the SONiC community, Edgecore developed its own enterprise-grade distribution of SONiC in 2018 and has been proactively upstreaming its open-source efforts since its inception. This strategic initiative has helped drive the adoption and robustness of SONiC across diverse markets globally.

Today, the SONiC ecosystem has matured significantly, achieving much broader market adoption in data centers supporting many use cases. In addition, the concept of Openness has evolved far beyond networking alone. Most enterprises have been embracing open Infrastructure strategies to extend across networking, computing, and storage. Edgecore is once again taking the lead by expanding its vision beyond open networking to enable our customers to create cross-stack open infrastructures. With this in mind, Edgecore is making the bold move to become a Pure-Play SONiC player.

As a pure-play SONiC player, Edgecore will focus on supplying community open-source under SONiC Apache License 2.0, and focus its revenue model through support, professional service, consulting, training, etc. And to bolster its portfolio, Edgecore will collaborate with Broadcom to deliver Enterprise SONiC, offering a robust, open-source distribution designed to address a wide range of use cases for its customers. Further, Edgecore will emphasize the focus on community engagement and contribute to and collaborate with the Open-Source community.

"Our collaboration with Edgecore Networks has consistently provided one of the industry's most robust and reliable open networking solutions, leveraging Broadcom's state-of-the-art merchant silicon," said Hasan Siraj, head of products and ecosystem, Core Switching Group, Broadcom. “By integrating our cutting-edge switching chipsets with our contributions to SONiC, we enable end-users to streamline deployments and unlock maximum value for high-performance and AI-driven infrastructure.”

As part of its long-standing commitment to its customers, Edgecore Networks will continue to support existing customers who have previously adopted Edgecore’s Enterprise distribution (ecSONiC branded) and commit its long-term support and transition plan as required and will contribute its development to the community. Edgecore will also continue its commitment to OCP and the Open Network Install Environment by supporting third party NOS on its hardware platforms.
