Bedrock Security Appoints George Gerchow as Chief Security Officer

Security veteran brings extensive leadership experience from Sumo Logic and VMware to accelerate Bedrock’s data-centric security vision

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bedrock Security, the ubiquitous data security and management platform, today announced that it has appointed George Gerchow as its new Chief Security Officer (CSO). Gerchow brings over two decades of experience strategically guiding technology companies through complex security challenges, compliance requirements and risk management frameworks. At Bedrock Security, he will be responsible for leading the security strategy, supporting go-to-market initiatives and cultivating customer trust on a large scale. The appointment comes as Bedrock Security continues to strengthen enterprise data usage by embedding it into the core of data security, governance and data management with its breakthrough metadata lake technology.

“Joining Bedrock comes at a significant moment for data security, especially as AI reshapes the cybersecurity landscape," said George Gerchow. “Data remains elusive and difficult to inventory. Bedrock’s unique metadata lake approach brings unprecedented visibility and control for organizations as they navigate responsible AI implementation. I look forward to helping organizations address the exponential challenges of data security in cloud and AI environments while expanding our footprint in highly regulated industries. Bedrock Security has a tremendous opportunity to fundamentally change how enterprises approach data security.”

Prior to joining Bedrock Security, Gerchow served as interim CISO at MongoDB, where he worked with engineering to build a comprehensive security program that broke down silos between teams. His accomplishments at MongoDB include launching the company’s first Trust Advisory Board, revamping the Incident Response Program and proactively addressing security concerns while staying ahead of regulatory changes to maintain MongoDB’s competitive edge.

Before MongoDB, Gerchow spent nine years at Sumo Logic as CSO and senior vice president of IT, where he was responsible for building and supporting the company’s Information Technology, Security and Compliance, and Real Estate functions. At Sumo Logic, Gerchow led the security and compliance initiatives that helped the company go public and achieve FedRAMP Authorization. He built a next-generation Global Operations Center, established a DevSecOps team, matured the company’s bug bounty program and modernized IT systems.

Gerchow also served as global director and founder of The Center for Policy & Compliance at VMware, where his team was responsible for building industry wide hardening standards adopted by NIST, CSI and virtualization customers. Additionally, Gerchow has been a Faculty Advisor at IANS Research for more than 14 years, providing experience-based security insights for CISOs and their teams.

“George’s appointment accelerates Bedrock Security’s mission to put data at the center of security strategy. Fundamental enterprise security programs and technologies exist to protect data, and George's experience building practical security solutions aligns perfectly with how our metadata lake technology solves this core challenge,” said Bruno Kurtic, CEO and co-founder of Bedrock Security. “As organizations struggle with data sprawl across cloud infrastructures and AI adoption, George’s hands-on leadership will help us scale the Bedrock Platform to solve what was previously an intractable problem. We’re giving enterprises complete visibility into all their data assets across cloud, SaaS and AI environments as well as who can access them and how they’re used.”
