Kinetic Technologies™ Announces Integrated Dual MOSFET Bridge Rectifier for Power over Ethernet up to 90W Input

KTA1170: Fully Compatible with IEEE® 802.3bt Standard, Improves Powered Device Efficiency up to 2%

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Power management leader, Kinetic Technologies, is expanding its Power over Ethernet (PoE) portfolio with the introduction of the KTA1170 dual active bridge rectifier. This device is a single-chip, highly integrated solution for voltage rectification on Power over Ethernet (PoE) Powered Devices (PD). Applications include Conference Systems, Voice over IP (VoIP) Phones, Wireless LAN Access Point, Security Cameras, WiMAX Terminals, Point-of-Sales Terminals, RFID Readers and Thin Clients.

The KTA1170 is a dual ideal-diode bridge designed to rectify independent DC input channels, separately or together, into a single output. This is especially required for IEEE 802.3bt powered devices, where power is delivered through all 4 pairs of the cable. Also, with a forward voltage drop of 0.25V compared to 0.7V for discrete diodes, designers can instantly save up to 1W for Class 8 power applications while significantly reducing system size.

Geethakrishnan Narasimhan, Director of Product Marketing at Kinetic Technologies, says, “With the introduction of KTA1170, Kinetic is offering a complete portfolio of products to design any PoE PD application across IEEE 802.3af, at and bt power standards. The dual active bridge solution for voltage rectification not only decreases the PCB footprint by 87% and simplifies the BOM but also improves the PD power conversion efficiency by up to 2%. Customers can now design applications for PoE PD that require higher power at efficiencies up to 92% and with smaller form factors, effectively expanding the limits of PoE systems.”
