Queen’s University Community Rallies to Protect Services and University’s Reputation in Advance of Sunday Strike Deadline

KINGSTON, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Workers, students and community supporters will rally outside Richardson Hall on the Queen’s University campus at noon on Thursday, urging the university and foodservice contractor Aramark to address key concerns and avoid a strike that could start as early as Monday morning.

The workers who could be on strike Monday include tradespeople, caretakers, custodians and foodservice workers represented by CUPE 229, classroom and laboratory technicians in CUPE 254, and library technicians, who are members of CUPE 1302.

Their agreements expired between eight and ten months ago. They are calling on their employers to address the cost-of-living crisis, understaffing concerns and other issues that are reducing the quality of service to students before they become a crisis for Queen’s reputation.
