eClinicalWorks Achieves Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) Designation

PRISMANet, an eClinicalWorks solution, to spearhead nationwide interoperability and drive improved patient outcomes

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--eClinicalWorks®, the largest ambulatory cloud EHR, is pleased to announce that eClinicalWorks has been formally designated as a Qualified Health Information Network® (QHINTM). As a prominent interoperability healthcare IT leader, eClinicalWorks is well-positioned to further advance the goals of the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common AgreementTM (TEFCATM) and the 21st Century Cures Act as an early EHR recipient of the QHIN designation. PRISMANet, the eClinicalWorks QHIN solution, aims to drive improved patient outcomes through interoperability and ensure providers have the most complete patient information at the point of care.

“Obtaining QHIN designation is a terrific achievement for eClinicalWorks and reflects our commitment to advancing nationwide interoperability and delivering cutting-edge solutions that simplify secure health data exchange and empower patients,” said Girish Navani, CEO and cofounder of eClinicalWorks. “With access to a wealth of comprehensive patient information at the point of care, healthcare professionals can make better data-driven decisions.”

In August 2023, eClinicalWorks announced its intent to apply for QHIN designation. Soon after, in November 2023, eClinicalWorks submitted its application for review by The Sequoia Project, the TEFCA Recognized Coordinating Entity® (RCE®), as designated by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy (ASTP). TEFCA aims to establish a universal governance, policy, and technical floor for nationwide interoperability and further asserts trust enhancements such as a structured process to evaluate and vet entities that plan to ask for data for the TEFCA Required Treatment Exchange Purpose.

“Network to network interoperability through TEFCA went live a little more than a year ago, and since then, millions of transactions have taken place,” said Micky Tripathi, Ph.D., assistant secretary for technology policy and national coordinator for health information technology. “We anticipate TEFCA-based exchange will continue to accelerate this year and are excited to add eClinicalWorks to an increasingly deep roster of QHINs who are central to fueling that growth.”

Tushar Malhotra, director of interoperability strategy, added, “At eClinicalWorks, we understand that seamless data exchange is essential to improving patient care outcomes. QHIN designation will help us further advance our interoperability goals for providers nationwide. eClinicalWorks looks forward to continuing its work and collaborating with HHS, the ASTP, and the RCE to onboard participants and being TEFCA ready.”

“eClinicalWorks joins the growing TEFCA community of QHINs, participants and subparticipants exchanging health data every day to improve the health and welfare of all patients,” said Mariann Yeager, CEO of The Sequoia Project and RCE lead. “In 2025, the TEFCA community intends to build on the millions of transactions to expand the types of data exchanged and the allowed exchange purposes to strengthen this new health information exchange infrastructure for the country.”
