Gateway Appoints Jeff Schmidt as President of Mortgage Banking

TULSA, Okla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Gateway Mortgage, a division of Gateway First Bank, has appointed Jeff Schmidt as President of Mortgage Banking. In this role, Jeff serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for Gateway’s mortgage activities across all spectrums, including retail, correspondent, operations, secondary, and servicing.

With over 40 years of banking and mortgage banking experience, Jeff has been unwavering in his commitment to Gateway since joining the organization nearly 15 years ago. He has held several key positions over the years, including Area Sales Manager and, most notably, interim Chief Mortgage Officer during the onset of the pandemic. Since 2021, he has served as Regional Vice President over Gateway’s North Texas area, leading over 20 mortgage centers in communities across the state, including the Dallas metropolitan area.

Jeff has a proven track record of success, having helped thousands of customers achieve their dreams of homeownership as a producer. When he joined Gateway, he built a team that started with Waxahachie, TX, and quickly grew across the state. He was consistently the top producer in the company year after year, and even after stepping out of production for over a year, he continued to hold the record of being amongst the top producers cumulatively in Gateway’s history.

Jeff also holds several mortgage and loan servicing certifications, most notably from the Mortgage Bankers Association and the American Institute of Banking. He’s also proficient in underwriting guidelines for FHA, VA, USDA, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac mortgages.

“I feel blessed to have such an outstanding leader like Jeff guiding our mortgage business,” said Scott Gesell, CEO of Gateway First Bank. “He continues to be a champion for team Gateway who is laser-focused on reinforcing the core values that make our company such a great workplace. I look forward to watching him build on our strengths to grow the business and continue to move us toward a bright and successful future.”
