Westinghouse Announces Creation of New Business Units to Support Global Nuclear Operating Fleet

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today Westinghouse Electric Company announced that it will transform its Operating Plant Services business into two new global business units: Long-Term Operations and Outage & Maintenance Services, effective January 1.

The new organization reflects the increased market focus on extending the operating life of today’s nuclear fleet and delivering optimized performance to existing reactor operators. This new structure will enhance customer value by elevating these respective segments within the enterprise and better positioning our teams to deliver our technical solutions for our clients worldwide.

  • Effective immediately, Luca Oriani, currently Senior Vice President of Global Engineering & Components Services, has been appointed President, Long-term Operations.
  • Effective November 1, Marie Blanc will be appointed President, Outage & Maintenance Services.

Both leaders will report to Dan Sumner, president of the global Operating Plant Services business, through the end of the year. Effective January 1, Dr. Oriani and Ms. Blanc will report directly to Westinghouse President & CEO Patrick Fragman as members of the Executive Leadership Team. This coincides with Mr. Sumner’s planned transition out of Westinghouse in Q1 2025 to pursue a personal project.

“Westinghouse is a global leader in delivering solutions that enable the installed nuclear fleet to operate their plants effectively, safely and as long as possible,” said Patrick Fragman, Westinghouse President and Chief Executive Officer. “Luca and Marie are seasoned Westinghouse leaders who have deep understandings of our technologies, strategy, culture and clients’ needs, and will lead these businesses exceptionally well.”

“We thank Dan Sumner for his 14 years of service at Westinghouse, including his instrumental role in the strategic repositioning of the company as our Chief Financial Officer for six years. More recently, his leadership of the global Operating Plant Services business has also been critical as we continue to strengthen our execution and expand our innovative client offerings.”

Long-term Operations

The new Long-term Operations (LTO) business unit develops and delivers innovative solutions across engineered solutions, instrumentation & controls systems, training & resource solutions, and parts that support the global operating fleet of nuclear power plants.

Dr. Oriani served as Senior Vice President and Global Chief Engineering Services Officer since 2019, leading the enterprise engineering hub for Westinghouse and overseeing its global components manufacturing plants. Dr. Oriani has worked at Westinghouse for over 22 years – starting as a senior engineer and advancing to leadership roles in engineering and licensing for operating plants and advanced reactor technology, including the design and completion of the first Westinghouse advanced AP1000® units in China and the U.S.

Outage & Maintenance Services

The new global Outage & Maintenance Services (OMS) business unit delivers outage, maintenance, inspection, welding and refurbishment services for operating nuclear power plants in the Americas, EMEA and Asia regions.

Ms. Blanc returns to Westinghouse where she spent more than 22 years in leadership within field services, fuel engineering, project delivery, procurement & logistics, quality and continuous improvement organizations. Most recently, she served as Vice President and Managing Director at Xylem with oversight of sales and service operations for Eastern Europe. Earlier in her career, she worked at ABB in engineering and project management.
