Provincial Anti-Scab Law Needed to Make Negotiations Fair for Workers, Say CUPE Ontario and Ontario NDP

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In a time of spiralling costs, sky-high rents, and stagnant wages, workers are increasingly taking job action to back their demands for a better deal.

Yet the absence of a provincial anti-scab law in Ontario is needlessly prolonging strikes, as employers’ use of job-stealing replacement workers puts both the public and workers at risk.

Workers at Western University are on the picket line for a third week as they fight for a clean, safe and accessible campus for all. But as the university’s bosses continue to import scab labour from out of town, the need for anti-scab legislation has become ever more apparent.

On Tuesday morning, representatives from CUPE Ontario and the Ontario New Democrats will lay out their case for anti-scab legislation.
