Communitech Launches MedTech Accelerator Program with Eight Canadian Startups

New program offers participants expert guidance in growing medtech sector

KITCHENER, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Communitech announced today it selected eight Canadian startups to participate in the first cohort of its MedTech Accelerator Program. The new program is built to support early-stage medtech founders who are passionate about revolutionizing health care and ready to scale their companies with expert advice.

“The Communitech MedTech Accelerator Program meets a growing need to support medtech founders who are building innovative solutions in health care,” said Angela Larraguibel, SVP of Founder Services at Communitech. “With a perfect storm of demand and opportunity driving this growth, we’re creating a space where medtech founders can connect with experts and resources in a collaborative environment. This program will support these startups as they work to make a meaningful impact on health care and people’s lives.”

The MedTech Accelerator Program is made possible by a partnership with MACcelerate, the medtech and digital health accelerator for McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Medicine Waterloo Regional Campus and community, and with support from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev), the Province of Ontario and the City of Kitchener. The new initiative helps founders identify and tackle key challenges, setting them up for long-term success with expert coaching and support. Founders will learn how to build and scale their medtech companies, pinpoint and address gaps, navigate compliance and develop a solid growth strategy. The program includes weekly sessions with experienced coaches, opportunities to network with health-care professionals and medtech partners, and access to a personalized action plan and resources.

Applications for the program opened on June 24, 2024 and were thoroughly reviewed with input from Communitech growth coaches, health-care professionals, investors and ecosystem partners. Each company was evaluated on its team, market potential, financials, technology, business plan and presentation.

The following eight companies are the first to join the Communitech MedTech Accelerator Program:

The first cycle of the program will run from Sept. 9 to Oct. 4, 2024. For more information about the Communitech MedTech Accelerator Program, visit communitech.ca.
