Efficiency Improvements in Medication Adherence Packaging Significantly Reduce Pharmacy Cost-to-Fill

New Automated Adherence Pouch Packaging System Helps Adherence-Based Pharmacies Address Tight Margins

GENOA CITY, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Although cost-to-fill is key to pharmacy profitability, traditional adherence packaging technology has been less efficient than possible. Pharmacy automation solutions provider JFCRx announced today that its adherence packaging system TruPak™ can help pharmacies reduce adherence pouch packaging operational costs by as much as 75%, depending on specific use scenarios.

TruPak helps pharmacies decrease cost-to-fill (the total cost related to dispensing a single prescription) by drastically reducing the time and labor needed to fill and verify pouch package prescriptions. The system uses RFID canisters to reduce exception trays and hot swap technology to allow for replenishment and canister changes without stopping production, which means more uptime. Real time label printing tied to NDC changes also helps to eliminate mislabeled pouches, avoid timely rework, and facilitate lowest cost medication sourcing. When less labor is required, pharmacies can reallocate staff time to revenue-generating activities such as Medication Therapy Management or Diabetes Self-Management Training, which helps improve margins, and close gaps in care.

The leadership of JFCRx is comprised of the previous owners and management team of TCGRx, which was acquired by a third party in 2017. This experienced team created JFCRx to fill a need for greater efficiency, analytics, and customer service in the pharmacy automation industry.

“In today’s climate of margin pressures and the impact of negotiated drug prices in the Inflation Reduction Act, it is more important than ever that technology deliver continually improving efficiencies,” said Duane Chudy, Chairman of JFCRx. “We have built a solution that delivers on that need by the nature of its design but also by continually monitoring the system in real-time and presenting real-time solutions to inefficiencies.”

Unlike any other player in the industry, JFCRx offers enterprise-level software for dashboarding, order management, and customized reporting through its cloud-based ecosystem, Enlite™. Enlite allows for the connection of disparate automation systems to provide actionable intelligence to drive efficiency.

Jeff Swanson, SVP of Sales for JFCRx, added, “In addition to the product solution set, we have also assembled the industry’s most experienced team to help optimize operations and provide a roadmap to building an adherence packaging model that is not just sustainable but also scalable.” Swanson noted that JFCRx has a customer-proven model that anyone in adherence pouch packaging should look at in reference to their own operations.

JFCRx’s offerings include multi-dose blister card automation, adherence pouch packaging solutions, pouch verification systems, and vial filling for all pharmacy market segments.
