Modern Health Poised To Make A Big Leap Forward In AI With The Acquisition of Anvil Health

Modern Health Appoints Tech Entrepreneur Paul Clark As Head of AI Strategy, Signaling A Bold Step Towards Advancing AI In Mental Health Care

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Modern Health, a leading global workplace mental health platform, today announced the acquisition of Anvil Health’s artificial intelligence technology and the appointment of Paul Clark as Head of AI Strategy. Paul brings over two decades of experience in technology leadership across venture-backed startups and his own businesses, most recently as co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Anvil Health, which focused on AI applications in healthcare. This strategic move underscores Modern Health’s commitment to utilizing cutting-edge technology to provide the best member and customer experience and accelerate its mission of making mental health a strength and priority for all.

Anvil Health, co-founded by Paul Clark and Jon Bischke, developed Ascribe, an innovative AI-powered solution designed to enhance the healthcare provider experience. Prior to Anvil, Paul led product and engineering teams at Spruce, Phunware, and Spredfast (now Khoros), successfully guiding these companies from initial development and market launch to achieving nine-figure revenues. In his role as Head of AI Strategy, Clark will lead the development of Modern Health's internal and external AI technology strategy, driving AI technology initiatives to support the company's ambitious product roadmap.

"This acquisition goes beyond technology; it's about transformative vision," said Jesse Calderon, Chief Technology Officer at Modern Health. "We are thrilled to welcome Paul to the team. His deep experience in AI and machine learning will be instrumental in shaping our strategies to leverage these technologies, positioning Modern Health at the forefront of AI-driven mental health innovation. We are deeply committed to ensuring that more people worldwide can access the highest quality mental health care, and technology plays a key role in achieving that goal.”

Mental health is the world’s leading cause of disability, yet only half of those who are diagnosed actually receive treatment. There are significant barriers in mental health care around not only access but also ineffective and misaligned care. Modern Health uses millions of data points and proprietary technology, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to effectively match individuals with the right care based on their clinical needs and preferences, driving impressive outcomes while reducing healthcare costs and lost productivity for employers. Modern Health’s innovative and sustainable stepped-care approach is proven to not only reduce mental health issues but also prevent them.

“It’s been impressive to see Modern Health’s ongoing technical innovation introducing sustainable and first-to-market care modalities like community Circles and its 1:1 care offering, Pathways. The company persistently challenges the status quo, ensuring that every person is connected to the right care wherever they are in their journey,” comments Paul Clark, Head of AI Strategy at Modern Health. “When used responsibly, technologies such as AI have enormous potential to change outcomes and even lives for millions of people around the world. I believe Modern Health is uniquely positioned to lead this market, and I’m thrilled to join the team.”

This news follows continued momentum, including Modern Health achieving the 2024 Great Place To Work Certification and being honored by Nasdaq for providing 5 million moments of care to people worldwide.
