Taiwan Olympic Team departs for 2024 Paris Olympic Games, led by Kuo Hsing-chun, Yang Yung-wei, and Tai Tzu-ying

TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Taiwan has announced its delegation for the upcoming Paris Olympics, set to kick off on July 26. The team consists of 60 athletes, 39 coaches, and 23 first-time competitors, representing Taiwan in 16 sports categories. The athletes will depart for Paris starting July 17, with the archery team arriving first.

Among the notable athletes representing Taiwan is Tai Tzu-ying, ranked third in the world in women's singles badminton, who will make her final attempt at an Olympic gold medal. Hsieh Su-wei, the world’s second-ranked women’s double tennis player, will team up with Tsao Chia-yi to represent Taiwan. Kuo Hsing-chun, the world record holder in the women's 59kg weightlifting category for snatch, clean and jerk, and combined will also be competing.

For male athletes, table tennis player Chuang Chih-yuan will make his sixth Olympics appearance, setting a record for the most appearances by a Taiwanese athlete. Tang Chia-hung will once again compete in the horizontal bar gymnastics event, and Yang Yung-wei, Taiwan's first judo Olympic medalist, will be back to defend his title.

Additionally, breakdancing will debut as an official Olympic sport at the Paris 2024 games, featuring 16 top global competitors. Taiwanese breakdancer Sun Chen, who started breakdancing at age 11, has secured a spot in the competition, marking a historic moment for Taiwanese street dance.

To foster friendships among athletes and promote sports diplomacy, glass cups, pendants, and scented cards featuring the Taiwan blue magpie will be distributed to other athletes, showcasing Taiwan's cultural identity.
