Zyxel Announces New Firmware Patch for Speedtest® by Ookla®

The new firmware now validates 10 Gbps speeds using Speedtest with Zyxel’s EX7710 Multi-Gigabit Ethernet Gateway

ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Zyxel Communications, an industry-leading provider of secure broadband networking, Internet access and connected home products, announced today new firmware that validates 10Gbps internet testing for its latest Wi-Fi 6E Multi-Gigabit Ethernet Gateway, the EX7710. The EX7710 is the industry’s first 10Gbps product to be certified by OpenSync® and remains the only 10G gateway to show multi-gig speeds on OpenSync’s HomePass and WorkPass apps.

The EX7710 utilizes Speedtest Embedded™ by Ookla as a trusted solution for measuring bandwidth. However, during the certification process, internet testing could not leverage the EX7710's hardware accelerator, resulting in a capped testing speed of 5 Gbps, despite the product's capability of achieving 10 Gbps. To address this, Zyxel developed a firmware patch, now available on the OpenSync cloud, that validates the device's actual throughput.

“This new firmware marks the culmination of our efforts to accurately reflect the 10Gpbs speeds for ISPs using our devices,” stated Brian Feng, Senior VP at Zyxel Communications. "The lightning-fast speed on the EX7710 enables more subscribers to enjoy superior connectivity with extremely low latency."

Speedtest Embedded measures the characteristics of the communication network between a device and multiple servers using their global server network. However, not all public servers can reach 10 Gbps. Ookla offers the option to test exclusively on a company's servers through the OpenSync platform, providing organizations with a better understanding of their specific network's internet performance.
