The Standard Charitable Foundation Announces Grants to Camp Fire Columbia and National Center for Healthy Veterans

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Standard Charitable Foundation, one of Standard Insurance Company’s giving programs, announced two grants totaling $95,000 to two nonprofit organizations:

Camp Fire Columbia received $35,000 to build four new cabins at Camp Namanu, Oregon’s oldest continuously running camp. The renovation, known as The Sherwood Project, increases access to outdoor learning with ADA accessible cabins that have inclusive features for students with exceptional physical and cognitive needs.

National Center for Healthy Veterans received $60,000 to construct a new home in its Valor Farm residential community. During the nine-month program in Altavista, Virginia, veterans live in tiny homes in a village community where they cook and share meals, enjoy fitness and recreational activities with the goal of moving past trauma and transition challenges into a life of personal and professional contribution and success.

“At The Standard, we advocate for nonprofit organizations that support academic achievement, build social and life skills, navigate transition and foster community engagement,” said Dan McMillan, president and CEO of The Standard and president of The Standard Charitable Foundation. “The grants awarded to these nonprofit organizations embody our desire to improve the lives of people facing barriers to success.”

The foundation’s giving is separate from The Standard’s corporate giving. Since 2007, The Standard Charitable Foundation, The Standard and employees and retirees of the company have contributed more than $57 million in grants and social investments.
