Encina’s Carlo Badiola Presents Perspectives on Pathways to Decarbonization at 2024 Texas Industrial Energy Efficiency Program (TIEEP) Energy Forum

THE WOODLANDS, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Encina Development Group’s (Encina) President of Technology and Engineering Carlo Badiola shared perspectives on current solutions to advance sustainability and enable decarbonization at the University of Houston’s TIEEP Forum held on Wednesday. The presentation, "Innovative Solutions for a Circular Economy: Navigating Decarbonization and Sustainability Challenges," was given to members of the South Texas chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and students from the University of Houston’s Cullen College of Engineering.

Badiola joined other industry experts who shared perspectives and progress on the journey to energy transition. Badiola’s discussion centered on the premise that the challenges of decarbonization, sustainability, and waste management must be addressed concurrently and can best be achieved by focusing on circularity solutions that address multiple industries, markets, and applications. Key areas of discussion included a look at the current landscape of major emissions contributors; an introduction to the various forms of recycling as a complementary pathway to circularity; and a discussion about the role society can play alongside industry to enable a faster energy transition.

The presentation also highlighted Encina’s advanced recycling technology as a context-specific solution to address the intertwined goals of decarbonization and circularity. The company’s single-step catalytic conversion process creates drop-in quality circular chemicals derived from end-of-life plastics otherwise bound for landfills or incineration. The technology breaks waste plastics down to the molecular level reducing the amount of fossil feedstocks required to create high-value, industrial grade circular chemicals. Encina’s global manufacturing customers use these materials to meet their renewable content goals, enabling the manufacture of, use of, and reuse of plastics in industries such as consumer goods, packaging, pharmaceuticals, and construction.
