AM Best to be Joined by Conning for Analytical Briefing on Delegated Underwriting Authority Enterprises Market

OLDWICK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Senior analytical and research staff from AM Best and Conning will discuss market conditions and growth within the Delegated Underwriting Authority Enterprises (DUAE) segment during an online briefing on May 23, 2024 at 2 p.m. (EST).

AM Best Senior Director Greg Williams will be joined by Alan Dobbins, Conning’s director of insurance research. Sridhar Manyem, senior director, industry research and analytics, AM Best, will moderate the panel discussion, which will also include AM Best Associate Director Dawn Walker and Conning’s Lauryn Kothavale, vice president, Insurance Research.

Discussion topics will include growth in the DUAE market based on NAIC statutory filing disclosures and Conning’s re-estimation of the DUAE market share given data gaps. The panelists will also address the current state of this market, including the implications of increased private equity ownership of DUAEs, an examination of recent events in the fronting market, DUAE/insurer relationships and a review of benchmarking metrics for AM Best's Performance Assessment (PA) outcomes.

Williams oversees a team of analysts that is responsible for monitoring and evaluating companies that have been assigned a Best’s Performance Assessment (Best’s PA). Walker is part of AM Best’s industry relations team and has more than 15 years of insurance industry and risk management experience. She joined AM Best in 2022, initially serving as a senior financial analyst, conducting Best’s PA for DUAEs.

AM Best introduced its Best’s PA in 2022, providing an industry-first tool providing an objective, independent opinion of a DUAE’s ability to perform services on behalf of its insurance partners.

AM Best uses DUAE as a blanket term to capture MGAs, managing general underwriters, coverholders, program administrators, program underwriters, underwriting agencies, direct authorizations and appointed representatives. DUAEs have become an important part of the insurance value chain, with premiums having doubled globally over the last decade.
