TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--For the 46th year, Toronto’s International Women’s Day (IWD) march and rally is bringing crowds to the streets of Toronto.
“This year’s rally theme is ‘No One Is Free Until We Are All Free,’ to point to the interconnectedness of struggles for justice both locally and internationally,” said rally organizer Ana Liu.
The annual rally and march highlight international issues including the situation in Gaza, as well as calling attention to local issues including the gendered impact of the affordability and housing crises, the rise of the far right, and attacks on Trans rights.
Starting at 11:00 a.m., Eastern, a dynamic rally will feature cultural performances and a powerful line-up of speakers including:
- Dr. Catherine Brooks, Anishnawbe Kwe Elder
- Susan Gapka, founding member and chair of the Toronto Trans Coalition Project
- Sharlene Henry, co-chair of the York South-Weston Tenant Union
- Sultana Jahangir, South Asian Women’s and Migrants’ Services
- Tamara Abu-Abed, Palestinian Youth Movement
- Anna Lippman, Independent Jewish Voices
- Gloria Turney, Personal Support Worker, Service Employees International Union (SEIU)
“We know that here in Toronto and around the world, all our struggles intersect. We are here to call for freedom from poverty, from racism, from war, from climate disaster, from sexism, homophobia and Transphobia,” said Rally Co-Chair Gulseren Bulut.
Organized by a diverse coalition of community groups, students and trade unions, and sponsored by Women Working with Immigrant Women, the event brings together thousands of women, men, non-binary, and gender-diverse people to march for equality and justice.
Toronto is the only city in North America to have an annual IWD rally every year since 1978.
