Chartis Unveils Top 100 Critical Access and Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals for 2024

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Chartis, a comprehensive healthcare advisory firm, today announced the 2024 Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals and the 2024 Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals. Based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®, this annual program recognizes outstanding performance among the nation’s rural hospitals.

“During an era of profound uncertainty for rural healthcare, the Top 100 rural hospitals continue to provide a unique lens through which we can identify innovation and inspiration for how to deliver high quality care to increasingly vulnerable populations,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader, The Chartis Center for Rural Health. “We’re delighted to be able to recognize all this year’s Top 100 but especially the more than 40 first-time recipients across both categories. It’s wonderful to see so many new facilities join the ranks of our Top 100 alumni.”

Included among this year’s recognized facilities are 23 Critical Access Hospitals earning Top 100 status for the first time, as well as 19 Rural & Community Hospitals receiving their first Top 100 honor. Two Critical Access Hospitals – Barrett Hospital & HealthCare (MT) and Brodstone Healthcare (NE) have each earned their 13th Top 100 award, while 14 facilities claimed their 9th Top 100 award in the Rural & Community Hospital category.

The Top 100 Award program was introduced in 2011 with the Critical Access Hospital category. The Rural & Community Hospital category was added in 2016. A complete list of this year’s award winners in each category can be found at https://www.chartis.com/top-performing-rural-hospitals.

Now in its 14th year, the INDEX is the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance. Featuring a methodology utilizing publicly available data, the INDEX is leveraged nationwide by rural hospitals, health systems with rural affiliates, hospital associations, and state offices of rural health to measure and monitor performance across a variety of areas impacting hospital operations and finance.
