Orbia’s Precision Agriculture Business, Netafim USA, Helps Companies Meet ESG Goals; 2024 World Ag Expo Exhibit Spotlights Irrigation Solutions That Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Produce Zero Waste

  • Netafim USA is the only precision irrigation company with an SCS Recycling Program Certified plastics recycling facility and SCS Recycled Content Certified plastic resin pellets – globally recognized third-party certifications.
  • The company’s own AgVantage Certification Program has already signed up major producers, including Braga Fresh and Church Brothers Farms, committed to reducing dripline plastic waste.
  • Award-winning SDI-E subsurface drip irrigation system supports the U.S. Dairy Net Zero Initiative (NZI) goal to achieve GHG neutrality by 2050.
  • By applying water and nutrients precisely to the plant root zone, Netafim solutions support soil health and regenerative agriculture practices.

FRESNO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Netafim USA, Orbia’s Precision Agriculture business, is leading the agriculture industry in developing solutions and services that not only promote sustainable farming practices, but support growers increasingly in need of improving sustainability scores to meet new state regulations, as well as complying with corporate mandates. The company will spotlight its product lineup at the World Ag Expo in Tulare, California, from February 13 - 15, 2024.

“The demand for precision irrigation solutions has skyrocketed. Changing climate conditions, fluctuating commodity prices, and consumer demand require growers to adopt solutions and services that directly support ESG benchmarks,” said Mike Hemman, president of Netafim USA.

Reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions by up to 90%

An individual dairy farm can produce approximately 217,250 pounds of nutrient-rich manure each year. Netafim’s SDI-E system allows dairy farmers to utilize this valuable resource as a natural fertilizer, which significantly reduces input costs, and also improves their water use efficiency, promotes uniform crop growth, and meets strict environmental regulations.

Initially designed to help farmers combat drought conditions and promote water conservation, the SDI-E system also offers an unexpected benefit: reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The subsurface dairy efflient injections promote a necessary nitrogen reaction within the soil instead of being released into the atmosphere. This innovative approach has been proven to cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%.

Supports Zero Waste and Recycling Initiatives

Netafim ReGen Recyling is the industry’s first fully circular dripline recycling solution. The company works with its partners to retrieve used plastic dripline materials and processes it in its California recycling facility. It then uses the recycled materials to manufacture new, high-quality dripline products like Streamline X EZ.

In 2023, Netafim was certified through SCS Global Services as the only precision irrigation company with a certified plastics recycling facility (Netafim ReGen Recycling) and certified recycled content in the U.S. for its plastic resin pellet (WC 7784) with 100% post-consumer recycled polyethylene. SCS Global Services has been providing global leadership in third-party quality, environmental and sustainability verification, certification, auditing, testing, and standards development for three decades.

With the launch of its ReGen AgVantage Certification Program, Netafim’s partner growers and shippers will be recognized as Certified Irrigation Plastics Recyclers. Braga Fresh and Church Brothers Farms are the program’s inaugural partners. Netafim invites all growers who meet the requirements and want to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability to become a partner in the ReGen Recycling Certification Program.

Reduces Water Use and Increases Water Efficiency

Netafim is focused on helping growers convert more acreage to subsurface drip irrigation (SDI), which not only allows them to maximize precious natural resources but profits as well. For crops like alfalfa, SDI reduces water use by up to 50% compared to flood irrigation and improves crop productivity by an average of 30% - 50%.

World Ag attendees can visit Netafim at North Exhibit booths K48 and L47 and the Dairy Pavilion booth #6231 and explore the company’s lineup of precision irrigation solutions on display.
