Gwinnett Clinic Johns Creek Physicians Lead in Advanced Primary Care & Metabolic Health
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Gwinnett Clinic (GC), a metro Atlanta leader in primary and specialty care, is pleased to announce that two of its full-spectrum primary care physicians have achieved advanced board certifications: Dr. Shveta Raju in obesity medicine and Dr. Caitlin Suilmann in lifestyle medicine. By achieving these certifications, they will bring unparalleled access to advanced primary care for residents of North Fulton and Gwinnett Counties at the group’s locations in Buford/Sugar Hill, Johns Creek, Lawrenceville, Snellville, and Suwanee.
Shveta Raju, MD, a board-certified primary care internal medicine physician, trained at Emory and Harvard, has recently been certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) as an ABOM Diplomate. Dr. Raju also serves as Gwinnett Clinic’s Chief Medical Officer.
The estimated number of obese patients in northeast Atlanta far exceeds the capacity of board-certified obesity medicine physicians in the area. Dr. Raju’s recent board certification will give patients access to obesity-focused medical care in addition to routine primary care services. “As a physician, I have always been passionate about improving the metabolic, physical and mental health of my patients,” said Dr. Raju. “Certification as an ABOM Diplomate provides me with advanced knowledge and training in the treatment of patients who are overweight or obese, which are chronic illnesses, and typically require treatment over a lifetime.”
Caitlin Suilmann, MD, a board-certified primary care family medicine physician, trained at Emory and University of Wisconsin – Madison, has recently been certified by the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine (ABLM) as an ABLM Diplomate.
Lifestyle medicine can help address up to 80% of chronic conditions. The field employs lifestyle interventions to help prevent, treat and, occasionally reverse chronic diseases. Lifestyle medicine takes an evidence-based approach to laying the groundwork for a healthful and meaningful quality of life, building on six pillars: a whole-food, plant-predominant diet; regular physical activity; restorative sleep; stress management; avoidance of risky substances; and positive social connections. Lifestyle medicine works in tandem with obesity management.
The obesity and metabolic care now offered by Dr. Raju and Dr. Suilmann complement those services already offered by metro Atlanta’s most trusted multispecialty group. Having served over 500,000 patients, Gwinnett Clinic consistently performs in the top quartile nationwide in cost and quality metrics.
