Marin, Barrett, & Murphy Celebrates Back-to-Back Not-Guilty Jury Verdicts in October Trials

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October proved to be an eventful month for the legal team at Marin, Barrett, & Murphy as they secured not-guilty verdicts for two Clients in consecutive jury trials including a not guilty verdict for a client facing a first degree murder charge.

The most recent triumph, announced on Friday, came after a remarkably brief three-hour deliberation by the jury resulting in a not guilty verdict on all counts including first degree murder. The Client, who had anxiously awaited the opportunity to clear their name for several months, faced a challenging legal battle stemming from alleged false accusations. The case revolved around the tragic 2014 murder of a barbershop owner, and the emotional rollercoaster it presented spanned multiple years. Notably, the case had an intriguing twist – there was already a convicted individual serving time for the same crime.

"This was a case centered around a lot of emotions in the community and facts," said Partner Stefanie Murphy. "The circumstances of this case were disheartening and life-shattering for many involved. But at the end of the day, it's up to our team to provide unwavering support, seek justice, and ultimately bring closure to those affected. It's our job to meticulously weed through the emotions, unveil the facts, and champion the cause of justice."

The second victory, achieved on October 2, centered around an incident on the street in Providence. The Client had been concluding their evening when a sudden altercation escalated. The unarmed Client abruptly found themselves confronted with a life-threatening situation, as their aggressor brandished a knife during the confrontation. Acting in self-defense amidst the intense moment, the Client successfully defended themselves from the attack and the altercation resulted in injuries sustained by the armed assailant.

"In situations like these, where the police strive to maintain order in Providence's establishments, the complexities of such incidents can sometimes lead to ambiguities which result in unjustified criminal charges. This is where our role becomes crucial — to step in and ensure that justice prevails, said Partner Kensley Barrett.” “We aim to ensure that our clients are not wrongfully convicted of charges that do not align with the circumstances they confront, like the ones that our Client faced that night."

Marin, Barrett, & Murphy has been at the forefront of legal excellence, and our commitment to growth and innovation continues to shape our path forward. With the addition of Stefanie Murphy as a partner, the firm has reached new heights in its dedication to delivering justice and outstanding legal services. This expansion didn't stop with Stefanie—our team recently welcomed Jay Ollman and Angelica Bovis, two talented individuals whose legal expertise and dedication align seamlessly with our core values. At Marin, Barrett, & Murphy, we understand that each Client case represents not just a legal challenge but an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone's life.
