LegalOn Taps Technology Veteran to Lead Multimillion Dollar Investment in AI

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LegalOn Technologies, a global leader in contract review software, announced the appointment of Gabor Melli, Ph.D., as the company’s first-ever Vice President of Artificial Intelligence. Melli is a technology veteran and research scientist with deep expertise in using AI, data science, and machine learning to build world-class products across consumer and enterprise companies.

As VP of Artificial Intelligence at LegalOn, Melli will steer the company’s multi-million dollar Artificial Intelligence development investment in 2023, and support its ambitious product roadmap to transform the contract review process for legal teams in the United States.

He joins at an inflection point in LegalOn’s growth: in 2022, LegalOn Technologies (Japan) announced a $101 million Series D investment led by SoftBank to fuel its US expansion and development of Artificial Intelligence and legal content. With more than 3,800 customers globally, LegalOn’s fast-growing US product offerings now include AI Revise, which can automatically fix contract language in one click, using generative AI enhanced by expert legal knowledge.

With 19 peer-reviewed research publications, Gabor Melli brings a scientist’s mind to his work in Artificial Intelligence. Having led teams of engineers and data scientists at Sony PlayStation, OpenGov, VigLink, and Microsoft, he has decades of experience in applying cutting edge research in building impactful AI systems and integrating AI into products and professional tools.

“I was drawn to LegalOn because of the tremendous opportunity to transform legal through AI. For years, lawyers have been seeking technology that can automate and accelerate tasks, like contract review, and with advances in AI we can now make those possibilities real,” Melli said. “LegalOn is a leader in delivering practical AI to enhance contracting and I'm excited to help drive the next generation of AI innovation here.”

Melli joins LegalOn’s US CEO Daniel Lewis in the company’s leadership ranks. “There are few who have the level and breadth of experience in AI and engineering that Gabor has. I’m excited for him to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and help us continue building world-class products at LegalOn that legal teams can trust,” said Lewis.

Established by two corporate lawyers in Japan in 2017, LegalOn has 6 years of experience developing large databases of rich legal content authored by seasoned in-house counsel. The LegalOn platform combines this deep library of expert guidance with industry-leading AI to provide a solution that not only harnesses the latest innovations in technology, but combines that with Day-1 functionality and usability so legal professionals can start reviewing contracts right away.
